McCain Smears Obama in New Robocall

Cross-Posted from: Enough is Enough Virginia

Yesterday Talking Points Memo posted two robocalls, paid for by the McCain campaign and the RNC, attacking Barack Obama.  The link below is to a third call, out in Virginia today, blasting Obama for working with “domestic terrorist Bill Ayers” and warning that the Democrats will enact “an extreme leftist agenda.”

Read by an urgent-sounding male voice, the call is clearly intended to scare voters out of their support for Obama without mentioning one positive thing about John McCain.

The robocall’s text:

“Hello, I’m calling for John McCain and the RNC because you need to know that Barack Obama has worked closely with domestic terrorist Bill Ayers, whose organization bombed the U.S. Capitol, the Pentagon, a judge’s home and killed Americans.

And Democrats will enact an extreme leftist agenda if they take control of Washington. Barack Obama and his Democratic allies lack the judgment to lead our country. This call was paid for by McCain-Palin 2008 and the Republican National Committee at 202-863-8500″

I just got the call at 3:30 pm today... (chspkheel - 10/16/2008 3:47:28 PM)
It is beyond me why they continue to push this?  If their internal polling and focus groups are saying that this message resonates, then why do the independent polling and opinion articles indicate the total opposite?  The wheels are flat on the Strait Talk Express.  It's time to tell the band to stop playing, the ship is sinking!!!  The rats fled the ship weeks ago...

I once thought McCain was above this crap (DanG - 10/16/2008 3:52:52 PM)
Apparently not anymore.

The liberals are coming! (Teddy - 10/16/2008 4:11:08 PM)
that's the repetitious message in McCains's radio ads, too. Waving the flag of "liberals! God help us, liberals!" so why not again? Actually, following the conservatives got us into our current mess, so why not try a liberal approach this time? Not that Obama is a liberal; he strikes me as pretty conservative. So, what is the message and what is it supposed to incite me to do?

Their message (Dave N. - 10/16/2008 4:25:41 PM)
is "we have no message, but here's more fodder for the racist, xenophobic, flame-throwers". I'm surprised that the name Hussein didn't appear anywhere in that robo-call.

They make me retch.

The GOP (KathyinBlacksburg - 10/16/2008 4:45:08 PM)
The POS GOP keeps calling me.  I have gotten several robo calls.  And so has my husband. There's the tax you at 42,000 lie (which also says they'll send you an absentee ballot application).  We each got those.

There's the Obama cares more abut Hollywood liberals' absurdity.

And I just go the new one.

These people are freakin disgusting.  And they should be stopped from such manufactured lies and defamation.  They haven't just jumped the shark.  They care nothing about America.  And John McCain doesn't either.  He has shown over and over that he will do and say just about anything.  And he (and Sarah) won't stand up to the haters screaming threats to our candidate. Long ago they should have reprimanded the audience on the spot about how reprehensible that talk is.  But they won't and haven't.  John McCain all but blamed Barack for it last night (because he wouldn't do the "10 town halls").

We've gotten lives calls to.  I told them to never call me again.  But they won't stop.

We take callers off our lists if they ask.  The GOP does not.

Sorry for the duplicate.. (KathyinBlacksburg - 10/16/2008 4:45:48 PM)
Don't know how that happened.

What I'd also like to know (KathyinBlacksburg - 10/16/2008 4:47:58 PM)
is why are they calling strong Dems.  Is this harassment.  Or are they so brazen as to think we don't know better than their outrageous lies?

Don't know. What I'd like to know is why I got invited to a McCain rally. (pol - 10/16/2008 9:34:42 PM)
I'm a flaming liberal -- I always vote Democratic.  Why did they invite me to attend the rally on Saturday in Woodbridge?

Does anyone have a media contact list? (pol - 10/16/2008 6:11:28 PM)
We should start contacting TV/Radio stations to get them to talk about this stuff.  All we're hearing about today is the stock market and Joe the Plumber.  Now that I think about it, McCain was pretty clever to give Joe the Plumber some airtime today -- took the news focus off robo calls.

Make many complaints (Teddy - 10/16/2008 7:44:43 PM)
including to the Republican headquarters itself, not to mention various media. The GOP banks on the probability that those who do not respond favorably will not want to give publicity to the lies by publicly complaining. That does not work today, as Obama has proved that facing the bullies down is the answer. The desperate sleaziness of McCain and the Republicans needs to be trumpeted far and wide. I have not yet received such calls, probably because I have caller ID and just don't answer my phone in the evenings unless I know the caller personally. It saves my blood pressure.
