CNN/Time Virginia Poll: Obama 53%-McCain 43%

With 20 days to go - and a lot more work to do, of course - the good news keeps coming if you're an Obama supporter!

The new CNN/Time Magazine/Opinion Research Corp. surveys released Wednesday include Virginia, where the numbers indicate that Democratic candidate Barack Obama holds a 10-point lead over the GOP's McCain, 53 percent to 43 percent, among likely voters....

"Obama is winning men and women in Virginia, and is doing well across the state east of the Blue Ridge Mountains," said CNN Polling Director Keating Holland.

Now, I personally don't believe Obama's really leading by 10 points in Virginia, more like 3-5 points or so. And don't forget, we've got John McCain's upcoming rally with Jeff Frederick and Corey Stewart (assuming the two of them show up in Woodbridge, Prince William County their home town and county, respectively). I'm sure that give McCain a big boost! Snicker, snark, snicker.

Liberal blogs? (Dan - 10/15/2008 3:52:36 PM)
Funny,

Only a few years ago pundits were saying "liberal" blogs - I consider Raising Kaine progressive, but may have been termed liberal - would divide the electorate even more, especially in Virginia, where we may "offend" conservatives.  Instead, it has been blogs like Raising Kaine that try to fight for good government and expose bad government.  Raising Kaine stood against the Democratic establishment in 2006 to promote "outsider" Jim Webb.  Now Webb is one of the most popular Senators, nationally.  Now, Virginians are starting to come to the realization that these supposed "liberals" who started blogs like ours did so because we actually wanted better government for our state and our families.  The conservative blogs are ideologues.  That is a problem.  But, we are not ideologues.  And we have seen Virginians realize the errors of Bush, and the Republicans, and now are backing good government - delivered by people like Obama.

I think our blog and Daily Kos demand good government.  I believe that no matter how much any of us support Obama, our support will always be conditional on him providing us good government.  Conservative blogs trying to divide us, rarely criticize their own.

I agree with this, but... (Lowell - 10/15/2008 4:54:05 PM)
...how does it relate to the topic of this diary and/or what is it in response to?  Thanks.

My point (Dan - 10/17/2008 11:36:23 PM)
My point was not properly prefaced.  It is that Virginia is becoming more progressive.  Yet, some Republican pundits say liberal blogs would divide Virginia.  That is apparently not the case, since Virginia is apparently all about Obama.

I beginning to think that it is plausible that Obama is up by more than just a marginal amount. (uva08 - 10/15/2008 6:58:01 PM)
New statistics (presumably final) show that 436,000 new voters have been added to the rolls since January.  Included in that number are 61,000 new voters in Fairfax County alone.  According to a local paper, 95 percent of eligible voters in Albemarle County are now registered (67,000 registered voters now) and 80 percent of eligible Charlottesville residents are now registered (about 29,000 registered voters)  This 436,000 figure alone is enough to overcome Bush's '04 lead and then some.  Our next goal should be to make sure all of our voters get out on Election Day and that no eligible voter is denied their right to vote.  In other words, there is still plenty of work to be done but things are looking good for us right now.

I don't trust the polls really.  But I've been personally using them to taunt and demoralize every conservative I can find.

Another week of polls like these and alot of conservatives will find better things to do than stand in long lines to vote on Nov. 4.
