Obama 70, McCain 28, Ron Paul 2

Not a figment of my imagination, but the results of my observations as I traveled down some two lane roads in central Virginia earlier today.

As I rode down RT 522 through Louisa, Goochland and Powhatan Counties, I counted the number of yard signs along the side of the road for the presidential candidates.  The results were 35 for Obama, 14 for McCain and 1 for Ron Paul. (I only counted one per house where possible.)
This was amazing to me.  This is not Northern Virginia where Obama seems to have a lead in the polls.  This is Eric Cantor and Virgil Goode territory!

In fact, one of the surprising things I noticed was the large number of homes with either a Cantor or Goode or even Gilmore yard sign that did not have a McCain sign.  Not once did I see a Warner sign without an Obama sign (well, maybe once -- and there was the one Warner sign that had an Obama bumper sticker on it.)

Our final destination was the town of Farmville, home of Longwood University.  Driving down High Street we passed both the local McCain and Obama headquarters.  While McCain had a huge sign downtown declaring that Farmville was "McCain Country" the McCain office seemed to be taking the day off while the Obama office was alive and buzzing with activity.

I hope this is a positive sign that Barack will do even better in Central VA than previously predicted.
