In case you missed it, Sarah "abused her power" Palin was booed long and hard last night in the "city of brotherly love." For whatever stupid reason, the McCain campaign thought it would be a good idea to have the self-proclaimed "hockey mom" dropped the puck at the start of the Flyers-Rangers game in Philadelphia. Maybe there aren't many sports fans on the McCain campaign, because anyone who knows anything about sports could tell you that Philly fans are some of the loudest and most opinionated around. And obviously, their opinion in the 2008 presidential race is that they do NOT like Sarah Palin (probably not John McCain either - Philly is Obama country!). Anyway, sit back and enjoy the Philly crowd's long, sustained, and loud booing for Sarah Barracuda as she prepares to drop the puck and then walks off the ice to resume her "Tour de Hate '08" of America, gosh darnit!
P.S. The latest Research 2000 poll indicates that Palin would get booed at a LOT of hockey arenas around America: "Sarah Palin's fav/unfav is now a record 36/58 or - 22. That's Bush territory." Great choice, Senator McCain, you crazy "mavericky maverick" you! :)

Eagles fans once booed Santa Claus (teacherken - 10/12/2008 8:21:29 AM)
and threw snowballs at him.
From what I know from living in the Philadelphia area for more than a decade in two stretches, a major part of the booing was simply having a politician with no connection with the team or the city intruding on their hockey.
I agree that Palin is not likely to all that popular. In Philadelphia working class whites are heavily Catholic, and Palin's crazy African clergyman is anti-Catholic, and if they knew about that, it would also be sufficient grounds for booing.
I think the booing was less a question of support for Obama than it was resentment on her intruding on their celebration of hockey.
You're telling me they would have booed (Lowell - 10/12/2008 8:22:21 AM)
Barack Obama? I strongly doubt it.

The issue is one of intruding and inserting politics into a non-political event.
Fortunately, Obama is too smart and too courteous to do that.
I guess that's one reason why her numbers are so low.

*"Not only were the boos resounding, but there were plenty of Obama/Biden signs. It looks like this stunt by McCain and Palin backfired."
*"A nice spin for Palin would be that the boos were directed at Snider's decision to inject his politics into the game. But I am afraid the boos were directed at Palin too. The McCain campaign (run by morons) made a mistake agreeing to this and I hope Snider gets a lot of grief."
*"Beyond the stupidity of sticking Palin in Philadelphia, a city that will overwhelming vote Democratic, it was also at the Wachovia Center...hmmm, another symbol of our financial meltdown."
*"There are so many things wrong here it's sad:
In the post
1. The invitation
2. Her acceptance
3. The boos
4. Bringing the daughter
5. Involving the workers/players in politics
In the comments
6. Congratulating the boos
7. Complaining about the boos, it is hockey
8. Whining about Republican miss-treatment

Her Numbers are not Low Enough (jackiehva - 10/12/2008 11:34:12 AM)
McCain must have had a brain f**t when he selected this hate mongering dimwit--or maybe it was because she is a hatchet woman. It sure wasn't because of her knowledge or intellect. I hope this turns out to be McCain's downfall. Their rallies remind me of the crowds in Germany in the '30's (based upon newsreels from that time). I can't believe the Religious Right is buying into this hate-filled rhetoric. They are Christians, for God's sake, love thy neighbor..., do unto others.... Shame on McCain for allowing this to go on under his banners.
Not just Christians... (ericy - 10/12/2008 11:57:00 AM)
but really the black helicopter crowd.
As a Flyers fan who hates the Rangers, (hallcr3 - 10/12/2008 9:30:18 AM)
I completely blame Sarah Palin for the loss, too.
As a Philadelphia native and Flyers fan, (Dave N. - 10/13/2008 8:16:08 AM)
I couldn't have been happier to hear the boos!!
I was at the Capitlals game last night and .... (Bryan Scrafford - 10/12/2008 10:36:43 AM)
...they had this neat little thing where you could send in a text message and it would show up on the jumbotron. Caps fans were texting "Ovechkin can fix the economy" and "Ovechkin for president."
Do you like how they (Eric - 10/12/2008 11:33:12 AM)
were pumping the loud music during Palin's time on the ice? Sure seems like they were prepared to drown out all the boos. It wasn't playing during the intro for the first lady who won the contest (or whatever that was).
