Instead of pointing out the logical flaws in a slur or attack you make an attack and slam it right back. Don't talk about it, do it!
But yes, the tactic of redirection is a prized debating tool though it isn't a serious one. I hope at some point we'll simply debate issues rather than resort to half-baked punditry about nothing.
Buddhism teaches us to address the Buddha within each individual when we are having trouble communicating, what that means is that even when someone has done something that really makes you angry, you can still communicate effectively by finding something in the person that you can talk to. It's challenging, but it works miracles.
Gibbs is talking to an idiotic talking point by pointing out that not everyone gets to chose whom they associate with; sometimes you associate with people you don't like in order to serve a greater mission or keep peace at church or school.
If you're going on the playing field make sure you're ready to play the right game. This game is destroy your opponent, and bring a gun to the gunfight.
I am a Virginia Conservative and in no way, shape or form ascribe any validity to the likes of Sean Hannity.
I will vote for Obama because McCain is a liar, scum-bag and has no plans for the future. The only way to get the "conservatives" back into power, is to vote the likes of McCain and Bush out, lock, stock and barrel. I actually like Obama. I like his style, and the fact that he doesnt' let the nasty personal smear campaign being waged against him by McCain bother him.
The empty charge, "he's the most liberal senator in Washington" doesn't hold water with me anymore. Everytime a Democrat runs, the Republicans run around like Chicken Little screaming that "he's the most liberal". BS. Enough. Time to get the phony "conservatives" out and send them to the dumpster.
I didn't leave the Republican party, they left me, and the Democrats are looking better each day!
Please stop calling morons like Hannity "conservative", they aren't.
This is very much the style of historic domestic autocrats (usually the man of the house), and the way the meek little quiet wife used to handle the sonuvabitch was to go around him, do as she damned well pleased, and present him with a fait accompli he could not overturn. I begin to suspect that will be what happens with these autocrats of the airways, these dictators of the legislature, these tyrants of the Oval Office: work under the radar, trap them in their own web, and history will pass them by. Then dance on their grave.
It still blows my mind that an organization headed by a political propagandist (Roger Ailes) could be viewed as anything but a party media organization. For all the right wing hemming and hawing about "media" bias, Fox takes party message coordination to an entirely new level -- at least for this country. Fox fits naturally into the "reporting" paradigm found in Communist China and the Soviet Union.
