Some good news on debate morning:
The wife of Republican Sen. Chuck Hagel plans to endorse Democrat Barack Obama.
Lilibet Hagel has scheduled a 10 a.m. news conference in Alexandria, Va., on Tuesday with Susan Eisenhower, the daughter of Republican President Eisenhower [who had endorsed Obama in the primaries] ....
"The fact is we're in two wars, two of the longest we've ever been in. We've run up a third of our nation's debt in just the past eight years. We're in the biggest financial crisis since the Great Depression," [Hagel] said.
The Hagels know John and Cindy McCain, and she said her endorsement was not meant to slam them.
"This isn't anti-McCain. This is pro-Obama. I'm just convinced he's the right person," she said.
Now, all she needs to do is convince her husband to endorse Barack!

Chuck Hagel for Secretary of Defense (DanG - 10/6/2008 11:16:28 PM)
I'm all for Secretary Hagel. Think about it: it is a bipartisan move, but Hagel is Webb's closest ally in the Senate on Military issues, so we'll see the same Military responses; more time at home for our troops, responsible withdrawal, taking care of our veterans, etc.
Hagel for SecDef!
I have a feeling that would happen. (Rob - 10/6/2008 11:34:31 PM)
Unless Obama keep Gates, which is also a strong possibility.
Just think Hagel makes more sense (DanG - 10/6/2008 11:36:02 PM)
Gates seems like a fair guy, and I don't think bias would be an issue. But Hagel just seems like the right man for the job in an Obama Administration.
There's certainly precedence for that (AnonymousIsAWoman - 10/7/2008 9:39:45 AM)
William Cohen was Secretary of Defense in the Clinton administration
