Cross-Posted on: Enough is Enough Virginia

In parts 1 and 2 of this series, we established that court-martialed ex-Navy Chaplain Gordon Klingenschmitt is “untruthful, unethical, insubordinate, contemptuous of authority… and a totally frustrating independent operator,” whose current campaign against Governor Tim Kaine and the Virginia State Police is eerily similar to the numerous previous times when Klingenschmitt just happened to show up where the cameras are. In this installment we take a look into the mind of the man himself, by way of an editorial he wrote on March 18, 2008 entitled: “8 Reasons Conservatives will not vote for John McCain. Do you agree?

The entire thing is worth a read, but I have pulled a few select excerpts.

Given the man’s history of self-promotion, what do you think would be the first reason he refuses to support John McCain? You guessed it, it’s all about Klingenschmitt:

Sen. McCain refused to help me when I fought to pray “in Jesus’ name” as a Navy chaplain. When I walked into his office on Capitol Hill, two of his liberal staffers told me I should water down my prayers and stop praying “in Jesus’ name.” McCain will surround himself with similar liberal appointees in key White House positions.

This one makes me wonder what types of activities his Church has planned:

McCain wrote the bill censoring free speech by religious organizations and shutting down grass-roots criticism of elected officials (McCain-Feingold), so why should we now believe he’ll veto hate-crimes legislation? He’ll sign it, opening the door to further persecution of the church.

But the biggest reason for Klingenschmitt’s opposition to John McCain seems to be that he is not Alan Keyes:

I won’t vote for McCain and will continue to support Dr. Keyes wherever he leads our Exodus.

Alan Keyes worked tirelessly in Missouri against the murder of “snowflake babies” and in South Dakota to protect life in the womb.

Alan Keyes has personally stood with the Minutemen to secure our borders, protecting our national sovereignty.

I’ll vote for Alan Keyes, writing in his name if necessary. Join us, and someday you’ll stand before God with your head held high, blameless and unashamed of your vote.

And my favorite quote from this tour de force:

No amount of deodorant can overcome his rotten record of departure from conservative principles and personal assault on our grass-roots organizations.

The most interesting aspect of this installment is the pledge that Klingenschmitt has been shopping to Virginia clergy, which 86 pastors have signed, dedicating them to encourage their congregations to vote on November 4th in response to this non-issue. Never mind the cheap manipulation of faith for political purposes, more importantly, do you think these 86 pastors realized they were signing themselves up to get out the vote for Alan Keyes??

Do these 86 pastors share Klingenschmitt’s view of John McCain?  Someone should ask them……………..

Academy and the evangelical rightwing proselyting endemic to the Academy. Klingenschmitt sounds like one of those chaplains, but in a different uniform.

Nobody's stopping him.  He's still got his First Amendment rights.  He just can't collect a government paycheck and disobey a direct order.  If he wants to be a Navy chaplain, he will have to behave like a Naval officer.
