This week is the American Library Association's Banned Books Week.  In honor of this event, I suggest making a donation to a library, of either funds or of a banned book, in recognition of Sarah Palin's candidacy, to acknowledge her contribution to the necessity of having this event.  Today I'm making a donation to the Research Library at the Virginia Museum of Natural History, to help make their catalog available online (I donated a copy of "On the Origin of Species" last year).

While "Origin" is not currently on the ALA'a list of the 100 most frequently banned list, here are some that are on the list (for 2000-2007):

1. Harry Potter (I assume the whole series)
4. Of Mice and Men
5. I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings
11. The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn
14. The Color Purple
23. To Kill a Mockingbird (!)
37. Brave New World (I thought this was ABOUT 2000-2007)
57. Roll of Thunder, Hear My Cry
72. Fahrenheit 451 (I guess this was a given)
82. Are You There God?  It's Me, Margaret
