"Christians for Democrats"

Sometimes you come across a website so good you just have to share it with the world.  Today, it's "Christians for Democrats," written by a "Sunday School teacher from Kentucky" who believes that "the Democratic Party is the party of true Christian values" and that "George W. Bush is a self-righteous Pharisee."  Here are excerpts from his "About Us" statement:

Being a Christian Democrat Sunday School teacher from Kentucky, I founded Christians for Democrats after seeing Biblical facts twisted, manipulated, and blatantly falsified by Republican propaganda and rhetoric, even from members of my own church. I find that Republicans take advantage of good Christian people in an effort to force their agenda, which only supports the big corporations and special interests. There was a lot of talk about values this election year, and unfortunately "moral values" voters help give George W. Bush another term. I want to set the record straight and teach you, and every Christian, why you should support the Democratic party.

Christians for Democrats is a grassroots advocacy group, dedicated to the correct information, backed by Biblical facts, to make the voter aware of their Christian duty to vote Democratic. We have been enraged of how the Republican Party is using our Christian brothers and sisters with inflammatory claims of how their party is a moral leader. However, Republicans have done nothing to change the policies they claim to be against. The Republican Party?s politics are cynical examples of political grandstanding. If some of the policies George W. Bush is proposing, our rights to attend the church of our choice may be in jeopardy.

Well, that pretty much sums it up, doesn't it?  Now, if we can just get this good Christian man from Kentucky to move one state east and help us out here in Virginia this election year, we'll be in great shape!  Alternatively, we would be thrilled if he'd just write and tell us what he thinks about Jerry Kilgore.  Just a thought.

PS  Four other good progressive Christian sites are here, here, here, and here.

Wow, I came in a lit (Jen - 4/4/2006 11:26:18 PM)
Wow, I came in a little late on this one. But how entertaining, Pastor John!!???

Do you REALLY believe we're all going to hell? I think you better check out your neighborhood, or even more so, your own church pews. Bet my ass there's gonna be some gays and lesbians rubbing elbows with you that you don't even know about. Check the statistics on this one, pardner.

I don't subscribe to all the banter that Kilgore might be gay. In fact, I'm glad he's not. I don't want him on my side. He's done enough already to try and squelch the EQUALITY of gays and lesbians that we deserve.
I said, DESERVE!! See, Pastor John, we have just as much right to be here roaming this earth as you do. SO  ppppfffffftttttt!!!

Signed, a PROUD LESBIAN ADOPTIVE MOM!!!!

"No temptation has o (Pastor John II - 4/4/2006 11:26:18 PM)
"No temptation has overtaken you that is not common to man. God is faithful, and he will not let you be tempted beyond your strength, but with the temptation will also provide the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it." (1 Corinthians 10:13)

Anyone trying to tel (Pastor John II - 4/4/2006 11:26:18 PM)
Anyone trying to tell you that homosexuality conflicts with the Bible is misleading you and is probably not acting from love but from fear.  As animal and child sacrifices within the Old Testament are understood to be outdated now, the biblical ban on homosexuality is outdated too. The old Testament is old and the new testament is new, meaning to complete and to replace some  dubious parts.

Duke: repent or 9-11 (Pastor John - 4/4/2006 11:26:18 PM)
Duke: repent or 9-11 will happen again, this time in Altoona, Texas.

Pastor John, it woul (Duke - 4/4/2006 11:26:18 PM)
Pastor John, it would be worth spending eternity in the burning fires of hell for a bit of a roll in the hay with you. I get turned on by domineering right-wing pseudo-Christians.

"very cute"

is not appreciated. please keep your homosexual tendencies to yourself - or better yet, please seek a cure before it is too late and you find yourself burning in hell for an eternity.

Very cute "Pastor Jo (Ray - 4/4/2006 11:26:18 PM)
Very cute "Pastor John", ain't you a riot

Both Kathy's: I tend (Paul - 4/4/2006 11:26:18 PM)
Both Kathy's: I tend to agree with you. The Virginia Democratic party hasn't been great on gay rights issues. But let's not forget the candidates/officials who have voted the right way. That's MOST of the party.

I'm not sure what to do though. The Republicans use gay issues to scare up votes in every election from dog catcher to president...

NO. But he sounds li (Paul - 4/4/2006 11:26:18 PM)
NO. But he sounds like a squealing pig.

So, Paul, what's tru (Ray - 4/4/2006 11:26:18 PM)
So, Paul, what's true?

Are you saying Kilgore is gay?

I'll vote for Kaine (Kathy - 4/4/2006 11:26:18 PM)
I'll vote for Kaine because, well, I sure as hell wouldn't consider voting for Gilmore or any other Virginia Republican. But this lesbian most certainly will hold her nose when she votes.

Your line about "Democrats are highly welcoming to gays and lesbians" isn't true in Virginia. Yeah, it's the Republicans who are leading in introducing homophobic legislation, but there are damned few Democrats standing up and speaking out against that legislation. In fact, I see lots of Democrats falling into the "well  I hate fags more than [fill in name of GOP opponent] does".

My prediction? Some day Virginia will recognize gays and lesbians as full citizens entitled to full rights. But that day won't come soon, it won't come easily, and a lot of Democrats will join with Republicans in resisting it. Shame on them!

Ha - give me a break (Paul - 4/4/2006 11:26:18 PM)
Ha - give me a break Ray and Lou. It hurts cause it's true.

lou is absolutely ri (Ray - 4/4/2006 11:26:18 PM)
lou is absolutely right.

What are you going do do Lowell if Tim is forced to denounce all this childish, homophobic crap you seemed obsessed with?

If Jerry Kilgore is (Pastor John - 4/4/2006 11:26:18 PM)
If Jerry Kilgore is a homosexual, may god damn him to hell.

But he isn't. He's a good christian man, with good christian values and faith of the heart. You impugn his character with these assassinations and I will not stand for it. Jerry does not stand for the wicked ways of the homosexual agenda. Your candidate does. Please take down this ammoral and anti-christian blog.
