Republicans I have spoken to on the subject usually respond with some statement like "do you really think we should listen to the rest of the world on our own election?" My response is usually something like: "YEEEEEEESSSSSSS!!!!" At the end of the day, if people respect you overseas, you can get things done easier internationally. The State Department doesn't have to waste more money to get the same policy done and the military doesn't have to fight more. If the world hates John McCain then why would they ever want to fight alongside us even against terrorists? With his and Bush's rhetoric that would mean the rest of the world will be standing against us and therefore are also terrorists.
Foreign policy ends up being about who is more beloved by foreign peoples and viewed less as a belligerent.
Want to go to war with Iran, North Korea, Russia, Pakistan, and the Middle East? Vote McCain.
Want to ensure that Russia does not disarm their nuclear weapons? Vote McCain.
Want to promote nuclear proliferation world-wide? Vote McCain. (PS Obama wrote a serious piece of legislation that was bipartisan on this subject.)
Want to destroy the American economy and sacrifice countless American lives to fight endless wars over nothing? Vote McCain.
Did you enjoy the draft? Vote McCain.
Do you dislike women having reproductive and civil rights, the right to vote, equal pay, freedom from fear of violence? Vote McCain.
Do you dislike minorities and minority rights? Vote McCain.
Is the Constitution getting in the way of fighting terrorism, border control and immigration, and general law enforcement? Vote McCain.
Do you like massive corporations? Vote McCain.
Do you like being poor and homeless? Vote McCain.
The list goes on and, at this point, I do not think it is unfair to make these claims anymore. I do not see McCain helping anyone.
I didn't realize that there actually was a real Pravda that still operated. Huh. I guess I'll have to re-dub Fox News, "Pravda on the Potomac." Alliteration always works.
Just worked for me.
