McCain Breaks His Word Again, Caves, Will Attend Debate After All

Hahahahahahaha.
McCain will attend debate, campaign says
McCain previously said he wouldn't debate without a bailout deal in place
[...]
...He had pledged to stay in Washington to work on a deal that would address the financial crisis, even if it meant postponing the debate.
So...there's no financial bailout deal yet (ever?), but McCain obviously has been barraged by withering criticism about skipping the presidential debate and has caved. In short: McCain has caved AND broken his word - yet again. This is really getting tiresome.

Obama refuses to lead from the front (virginiavoter - 9/26/2008 11:46:06 AM)
Unlike fireman and police officers and other public servants who charge into the breach or fire or conflict to help resolve it, Obama has chosen to take the normal Obama position. He decides to stand aside and let others handle the heavy lifting and decision making. I would really like to see Obama lead from the front and not the rear or sidelines.
Whereas McCain is the reckless drunk at a fire (Hugo Estrada - 9/26/2008 11:56:22 AM)
and begins claiming that he is the man who is controlling the whole situation while in fact he is endangering everyone with his swagger.
Will McCain take credit for taking charge? Well, since his campaign took credit for the Blackberry, making another McLie and taking credit for this is not surprising.
So he's just supposed to ride in (Clemgo3165 - 9/26/2008 2:05:57 PM)
on his trusty steed, ignore all the work that's being done by his colleagues on the appropriate committee's in the House and Senate, and take over? He's outlined publicly and privately how he thinks the plan should be layed out, what more would you have him do?
He's not the President yet - the office he currently holds is that of the Jr. Senator from Illinois, his job is to represent those people and many Senate dems have mentioned that they've been in contact with him over the last couple of weeks.
And that suspended campaign (Eric - 9/26/2008 11:49:16 AM)
thing worked really well too. If that was a suspended campaign, what does an active McCain campaign look like? Wait, maybe this is it...
Suspended McCain Campaign = one foot in mouth at any given time
Active McCain Campaign = two+ feet in mouth at any given time

COMMENT HIDDEN (virginiavoter - 9/26/2008 12:04:42 PM)
I differ (Teddy - 9/26/2008 12:18:35 PM)
In my opinion Obama's actions and statements have shown outstanding leadership, not the least of which is his calmness. He has indeed presented an economic plan and policy (haven't you been listening?) He has also not interfered with the process of crafting a
bipartisan solution acceptable to the parties charged with doing same. McCain, however, after admitting he does not know much about the economy, after stating that the fundamentals are strong, ditzed around and then grandstanded by parachuting in and interfering with negotiations at the very last minute---- effectively making the entire process All About Him. What a little pissant, where is the leadership there? Apparently, virginiavoter, you think
When in worry, when in doubt, Run in circles, scream and shout
is a leadership trait.
bush-mccain = reckless (norman swingvoter - 9/26/2008 12:58:41 PM)
There is more than one way to lead. From what I see, mccain has the same reckless personality trait that bush has, probably even worse. From what I see, Obama actually takes the time to think things through rather than just rushing off on a reckelss tangent like bush-mccain. bush's reckless personality trait brought us the Iraq war, rushing without thinking of the consequences. As a country we either have to get off this path or go down the tubes. We can't have 4 more years of this crap.

Thank god... (Hugo Estrada - 9/26/2008 12:34:09 PM)
This is one thing that had me worried.

McCain will debate (red dem - 9/26/2008 12:33:58 PM)
Just proves once more why he should not be president. Always rushing in with a sky is falling attitude before he has any idea about the situation. Can't unpush a button, and I don't want his finger anywhere near it.
McCain has already won the debate ... (LoudounLad - 9/26/2008 1:25:45 PM)
At least according to an ad in the online version of the Wall Street Journal this morning. Which, given the time it would take to prepare and place it, makes it seem that McCain's intention was to attend the debate all along.
The Washington Post has the story in "The Fix" column:

Here's the image. (Pain - 9/26/2008 1:39:10 PM)

I also saved a copy just in case this one goes away.
So, now we know. God must have spoken to Sarah and informed her that McCain will win the debate, so it's OK to started advertising it.
Classy.
From Daily Kos (Pain - 9/26/2008 1:56:16 PM)
From the thread on DK, there is this tidbit:
And now we know how McCain intends to deal with the nation's economic crisis -- they've invented time travel.
Having come up with technology so advanced McCain can win the debate before he even announced whether he'd show up for the debate, the Republican team is ready to go on to their brilliant plan to save the nation from its current fiscal crisis. The McCain campaign isn't putting out all the details, but it involves sending Sarah Palin back in time with a moose rifle. If McCain economic adviser Phil Gramm suddenly vanishes into a puff of smoke, you know she's been successful.
