There's Something About Virginia...

One of the liabilities of having the name Mary is that everyone always seems to comment "there's something about Mary..." Not that I mind, but I've never seen how I live up to the reputation of any part of my name, other than trying hard and attempting to have a sense of humor about it all. But tonight, I cede claim. The facts came clear: there's something about Virginia. Whether it was the hard effort driven to claim a historic win for Herring or Kaine's inspiring response to the State of the Union, it crystalized in my mind: we are doing things differently down here in Virginia--and folks--including ourselves--are starting to notice. It's the blogosphere, the grassroots organizing, the definition of morality and positivism in politics, the new Democrats, our incredible Democratic elected officials and administration. I am proud to be an offbeat hitchhiker somewhere in all of this. There's just something about Virginia, who knows what or why...
