Anti-smart growth forces and their lackeys

An interesting blurb:

The Washington Post says 14 members of the Senate Local Government Committee and 22 members of the House Counties, Cities and Towns Committee have received about $1.4 million in contributions from builders, contractors and developers.

State documents also show some of the same lawmakers also took dinners and tickets to banquets.

Prince William Delegate Robert Marshall tells the Post that anti-growth bills usually get 17 or 18 "no" votes from the House committee.

The special corporate interests have their allies.  Will there be enough principled Republicans out there who want real progress on the transportation issue?

Those actions cut across party lines and Marshall is a Republican champion of slow/smart growth

The fat king being d (NotFuzzy - 4/4/2006 11:31:52 PM)
The fat king being disrobed is good entertainment of course, but the key will be to continue citizen pressure for the full complement of land-use controls that will allow us to tie growth to infrastructure maintenance and improvement.

The place where citizens working through over 20 local civic groups are organizing into the hydra poised to squeeze the stuffing out of that bloated king is http://www.FairGrowthNetwork.org.

This is truly a bi-partisan effort, too, which makes it a terrific political issue.  I think Kaine tipped the balance with it (remember he got a full 60% in Fairfax as well as winning Loudoun and Prince William), and I think today's election in the 33rd District will also turn on this.  Yesterday's Post editorial was based almost entirely on this issue:

Hey c'mon everybody (Josh - 4/4/2006 11:31:52 PM)
Hey c'mon everybody does it.  What's the point of being a fatcat politician if you don't get big political contirbutions, free meals, and vacations.

Sheeoot... that's just the name of the game.  You scratch my back and I'll send some big fat contracts towards our mutual pals.

yeah, it's good to be the king.
