"I want to contrast what I consider to be an administration that is super partisan and not really able to deliver results with a different model, a better way, which is what we've been doing in Virginia and other states,...[r]esults matter. Planning matters. Management matters, and you can make much more progress if you do it in a bipartisan way,"That was a dig at the president, but Kaine said Democrats in Washington also could learn from the success achieved by him and 11 other Democratic governors who run states that Bush carried in 2004.
"I think we have to be much more about an optimistic and positive message," Kaine said of his fellow Democrats. "I think sometimes we perfect the criticism without a positive, forward-looking message."
Governor Kaine will deliver his response following President Bush's State of the Union address Tuesday night. Bush's speech begins at 9:00 p.m. Kaine's speech will immeadiatley follow and be carried live on C-Span.
