Why does Eric Cantor ever go on television? Why does he ever open his mouth? Does he think he has an IQ greater than a rotting eggplant or what? Let me spell it out for you, Eric Cantor: you are an IDIOT. That's I-D-I-O-T. Unbelievable, how can this guy be a Congressman? And, while we're at it, how on earth can George Dubya Bush be our president? Can we say "AWOL?"

It's the Democrats' fault (Teddy - 9/17/2008 9:39:39 PM)
pure and simple. Everything is their fault. Never mind that Republicans have been in charge of the Presidency, the Supreme Court, and Congress, or that, when they lost control of Congress for the last two years, they stonewalled every effort by the Democrats to pass reasonable legislation (filibustered in the Senate some 90 times, a new record, to stop any action and get instant replays). No, it's all, all the Democrats' fault. Actually, I think it's all Clinton's fault, too.
Frankly, I can hardly believe Chris Matthews pushed Cantor like this. Where was this aggressiveness in years past? Matthews must have lost a bundle in the stock market and now it's personal.
An open letter to the GOP (TheGreenMiles - 9/17/2008 11:04:27 PM)
Dear GOP,
Please keep putting Eric Cantor on national TV. Every time you do, Obama's polls go up.
Love,
The Green Miles
Agreed. In fact... (Lowell - 9/18/2008 6:56:42 AM)
...how about the Eric Cantor Network! Sort of like "The Learning Channel" in the sense that we get to watch Eric Cantor get "learned"/"schooled"/whatever.
Wow... (bladerunner - 9/18/2008 8:50:45 AM)
Holy crap, Cantor got nailed to the cross on this interview. And to think he was being vetted as a VP. Mathews is right, where is Bush during this crisis?
Matthews Has Been On A Roll (Matt H - 9/18/2008 9:18:16 AM)
I think more so since he was untethered from the anchoring work - he's now ten times better and free to tell it (and ask it) like it is.
I like him, and I hate him (Pain - 9/18/2008 9:32:29 AM)
When it's an idiot like Cantor in the hot seat, then bring it on. But, when for example Jim Webb was on during his election and all you got to hear Webb say was "But...I know...yes and....OK, thanks for having me on", then it gets a little annoying.
Sometimes, he really should give the people time to get a complete sentence out of their mouth.
Cantor's district could do a lot better. (thegools - 9/18/2008 1:12:47 PM)
I am surprised that no one in his party has run against him. It seems to me he could be taken out in a primary by any intelligent well spoken republican. Just play all of these sort of clips and the many that preceeded it.
the buck stops here? (skews13 - 9/18/2008 2:18:58 PM)
cantor is proof of failure of all things reagan. he was adamantly sticking to the old reagan mantra of thou shalt not talk ill of another republican. well that's certainly backfired in his face hasn't it? he claims harry truman was his hero. apparently he forgot what chris matthews was trying to remind him of what trumans mantra was. the buck stops here. cantor, and his ilk preach accountability. they just aren't good at accepting it. don't worry eric. everybody in the whole world knows bush is the biggest failure as president in the history of this country. you weren't going to expose something we already know. your damaged goods now pal, and if you think touting reaganism in the future is going to help you. you were sadly mistaken about that to. memo to brain dead conservatives. forget anything reagan, and actually tout an effective, and respected conservative like eisenhower. the only conservative in the 20th century that had any credibility whatsoever.
Clearly, we all need to contribute and help Anita Hartke in her campaign (snolan - 9/18/2008 5:59:53 PM)
Gah, I know the chances are slim, but Cantor is an embarrassment to us all...
I think perhaps Anita Hartke and activists in the 7th could use a little help...
...Hastert sent out House Majority Leader John Boehner of Ohio, Whip Roy Blunt of Missouri, Rules Committee Chairman David Dreier of California and Rep. Eric Cantor of Virginia to talk about the issues the speaker wanted to talk about - and to praise DeLay.
"Eric Cantor Urges Support for Rush Limbaugh" (Lowell - 11/7/2008 8:43:13 AM)

Subject: Rush Needs Your Support
Friends,
One failure after another, Washington Democrats have built a record of legislative failure; one disappointment after another, Washington Democrats have failed to deliver results to the people who got them there.
This must be why, just nine months into their tenure, the Democrat-led Congress hit an 11% approval rating - that is the lowest in recorded history. Facing their record of failure, Washington Democrats decided to try and distract - and so they took a man's words out of context, then they went on the attack.
That's why I'm encouraging you to click here to "Stand With Rush" and sign this petition.
It is at moments like these when we need to band together as conservatives and fight back.
This issue is bigger than you or me, it is bigger than Rush Limbaugh. With the recent liberal effort to resurrect the "fairness doctrine," we have to recognize that free speech -- conservative free speech is under direct attack. These are issues that speak directly to the core of the modern conservative movement - are we going to allow ourselves to be pushed around by liberal extremists, or are we going to fight back?
I want to send Washington Democrats a message that their attempts to distract aren't working - I stand with Rush Limbaugh against liberal attacks.

Remember, this Mo-Ron Is The Future of the GOP (aznew - 11/7/2008 9:59:21 AM)
I'm sure we'll all talk about it more in the days to come, but as the GOP picks up the pieces of the last two election cycles, Cantor is positioned to emerge as the star of the party.
He is the quintessential successful Republican: an anti-intellectual, know-nothing ideologue with a drawl and good political instincts who is able to come off in many situations as a decent guy able to attract independents. The wing-nuts like him and he's a reliable vote for big business. From the GOP perspective, he is the kind of politician around who the GOP can rebuild its own coalition, if doing is even possible for them at this point.
I'm not defending Cantor. Given what a liar he is, Cantor's idiocy actually qualifies as one of his better qualities.
But he looks likely to win the post of Minority Whip. And all else being equal, history tells us that the GOP will add a significant number of House seats in 2010. He will seem successful. The GOP is utterly bereft of Conservative leaders who are acceptable to party's core and able to attract independents as the same time.
I just wouldn't be surprised to see him in the mix for president from the GOP in 2012.
Pond Scum (bertholland - 11/7/2008 11:46:44 AM)
He only won by about 100,000 votes.
A little money and some grassroots help and Ms. Hartke could have sent his a** back to Henrico and life as Jim Gilmore knows it. As a second or third tier lawyer at a Repub firm.
Let's get it together for 2010 and retire this creep.
yah! (jasonVA - 11/7/2008 12:43:54 PM)
I remember watching Matthews just rip him up in this particular interview. He had no patience for him at all.
I had been thinking/hoping that a good drubbing would help clean up the GOP, and shake some of the crazies out. But with guys like Cantor taking leadership, it seems like all that is left are the crazies.
