George Allen: Addicted to Idiocy

Everything I always thought about George Allen's intelligence level is confirmed by this:

Today on Laura Ingraham's radio show, former Virgina governor George Allen (R) scoffed at claims that Americans are addicted to oil, calling it "an elitist point of view." Allen insisted it was freedom, not oil, that Americans were actually addicted to.

[...]

Allen stands alone in his defiance. Alongside energy experts and progressive politicians, prominent members of Allen's own party have long since admitted the truth. In 2006, President Bush declared, "America is addicted to oil," and just this past June, Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger (R-CA) said, "America is so addicted to oil it will take us years to wean ourselves from it." Does Allen think Bush and Schwarzenegger are elitists?

Here are a few of the funniest comments at ThinkProgress, mocking George Allen (is this a familiar place for "Felix Macacawitz" to be in or what?):

*"I'm not addicted to alcohol, I'm addicted to being drunk."

*"Yeah the "freedom" to drive 30 miles each way every day to a crappy job that pays $8/hour."

*"I realize the right wing is addicted to throwing the word "elitist" as an epithet to anyone they don't like...How is it elitist to say that Amercia is addicted to oil?"

And finally, one I'm sure we can all agree on:

*"Mr. Macaca has caca for brains."

Sorry if that's "elitist," George, but there's just no hiding the fact that you are an idiot.

Bring 'em all down (bamboo - 9/16/2008 1:38:58 PM)
George Allen is such an easy target that it's a wonder he has support levels in the mid-30s percentile. Now if there were just some way to do a reverse coattail effect and bring down scores of his GOP running mates for the GA with him.
That would be sweet!

"I'm not addicted to alcohol, I'm addicted to being drunk."

Most blog entries don't have winners, but this one definitely did.  Priceless!

He was on the shortlist?!?! (McGuffin - 9/16/2008 8:45:52 PM)
I heard that Allen was suposedly on the shortlist for Republican Presidential candidates (before his great fall from grace in 2006). This has always left me very confused. How is it that a guy who is so braindead and mindless would even be considered ? Are the Republicans really that stupid or  are they really that crooked????

In 2005/2006, Allen was considered a front runner for (Lowell - 9/16/2008 8:54:42 PM)
the Republican presidential nomination before Jim Webb and a "ragtag army" of 10,000 grassroots/netroots activists came into Allen's life... :)

He would have been the nominee (Barbara - 9/16/2008 9:18:05 PM)
If not for sites like this.

I have no doubt that if he would have won in 2006, he would be the Republican nominee today.  His phoney embrace of 'conservative ideals', running around dressed up like Howdy Dowdy, would have played well to the right wing crowd.

He was addicted to his ego, and likely still is.  That and the mirror.
