NY Times Demolishes Palin "Reformer" Lie

Wow.

... an examination of her swift rise and record as mayor of Wasilla and then governor finds that her visceral style and penchant for attacking critics - she sometimes calls local opponents "haters" - contrasts with her carefully crafted public image.

Throughout her political career, she has pursued vendettas, fired officials who crossed her and sometimes blurred the line between government and personal grievance, according to a review of public records and interviews with 60 Republican and Democratic legislators and local officials.

[...]

Interviews show that Ms. Palin runs an administration that puts a premium on loyalty and secrecy. The governor and her top officials sometimes use personal e-mail accounts for state business; dozens of e-mail messages obtained by The New York Times show that her staff members studied whether that could allow them to circumvent subpoenas seeking public records.

There's a lot more bad stuff, read it all here.  In short, Sarah Palin is the opposite of "reform," essentially the Alaska version of Dick Cheney. Needless to say, she is the last thing this country needs in a position of power (unless you want 4 more years of Cheney-level secrecy, contempt for science, etc., etc.).

This is disgusting (Johnny Longtorso - 9/13/2008 7:35:45 PM)
but I'm sure it will lead to another round of "wah, wah, wah, the big bad media is sexist!"

Rut-Roh! A bad day for McCain. (Pain - 9/13/2008 8:49:53 PM)

From MSNBC Firstread, Looks like McLiar is getting roughed up a bit.

First came a front-page New York Times piece noting that McCain "has drawn an avalanche of criticism this week from Democrats, independent groups and even some Republicans for regularly stretching the truth.

Washington Post gave "four Pinnochios" to McCain's recent assertion on "The View" that Palin never took earmarks as Alaska governor. Then the Boston Globe reported that Palin didn't really travel inside Iraq as has been claimed. And Bloomberg News said that the McCain camp may not have been exactly truthful in estimating the size of its recent crowds. "Now officials say they can't substantiate the figures McCain's aides are claiming."

To top it off, McCain spokesman Brian Rogers said this to the Politico about the increased media scrutiny of the campaign's factual claims: "We're running a campaign to win. And we're not too concerned about what the media filter tries to say about it."

Not surprisingly, the Obama camp has pounced on all this, issuing a memo to reporters entitled "Unraveling the myth of the Straight Talk Express." ...The memo concludes, "While the media is slowly starting to call the McCain campaign on their dishonest tactics, McCain's staff boasts that they don't care. As a McCain spokesman told the Politico, 'We're running a campaign to win. And we're not too concerned about what the media filter tries to say about it.'

Forgot to highlight this (Pain - 9/13/2008 9:11:47 PM)

Palin really IS perfect for McCain (TheGreenMiles - 9/13/2008 9:32:38 PM)
She's a Bush clone, too. Palin ran Alaska like Dubya runs the executive branch -- fire the experts, hire cronies, talk about being a fiscal conservative but spend money like there's no tomorrow.

Best line (TheGreenMiles - 9/13/2008 9:44:39 PM)
The Wasilla High School yearbook archive now doubles as a veritable directory of state government.
I see Palin also has the Bush administration's email policy -- use private email accounts, stonewall public records requests.

This captures it all:

Reforming the country is code for no choice and more war.

Does any of this sound familiar? (Glant - 9/14/2008 1:04:29 AM)
McCain says that he and his team fully vetted Sarah Palin before he offered her the nomination.  But did they really do their homework or had McCain's advisors already decided that they needed Palin and then ignored any information that argued against her?

As my wife pointed out, the way McCain decided on Palin is very similar to the way Bush decided to invade Iraq.

Friday's Editorial Slams McCain for Choosing Sarah (Glant - 9/14/2008 2:37:21 AM)
The opening sentence in Friday's NYT editorial says it as well as I ever could:

As we watched Sarah Palin on TV the last couple of days, we kept wondering what on earth John McCain was thinking.

Sunday's Article 14 Sep. NY TIMES (kevinceckowski - 9/14/2008 5:42:16 PM)
What an article in today's Sunday paper, "Once Elected, Palin Hired Friends and Lashed Foes".  How about the woman hired to head the USDA in Alaska, her credentials, she loved "cows" as a kid?  You can't make this stuff up? YIKES!

There is also an article about how much power her husband has too.

The article is entitled "Active Role for Palin's Husband in Alsaka Government".  He is served a subpoena for his active role in his wife's administration as governor. I thought she was govenor and running all those organizations, etc with all those highly qualified people?

What an eye-popping article about Sarah:{

YIKES!

I don't think the Republicans have a prayer.  There are too many smart people out there who just won't allow this Sarah person to become a heart-beat away from being President.

Dito, dito, dito, I totally agree with everything you are all saying, but... (chspkheel - 9/14/2008 10:58:24 PM)
this was one of the best opening stetches on Saturday Night Live in year!!!  Go Tina Faye and Gina Girshom!!!

Palin being on the Republican Ticket is more proof that the Republicans have no base without right-wing fanatics from the evangelical extremes.
