We now learn that the claim that Palin was "well traveled" and even visited Iraq was a lie. In fact, Palin made a trip to Kuwait and the closest she got to Iraq was a border station. It's unclear if her foot actually touched Iraqi soil at the border, but that hardly qualifies as visiting Iraq.
Bridge to nowhere: Palin supported the bridge during her campaign for governor. In fact, Alaska still took the bridge to nowhere money but spent it elsewhere. She only opposed it after Congress removed the earmark.
Speaking of earmarks, another claim is that Palin is a reformer and hates earmarks. The truth:
http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/...
Palin's office asked for $256 million in earmarks last year and $197 million this year. As mayor of Wasilla, Alaska (pop. 7,000), the town sought $11.9 million in earmarks from 1999-2003, according to Taxpayers for Common Sense, a nonpartisan Washington D.C. budget watchdog group.
The McCain campaign wanted everyone to know that Palin has military command experience as governor of Alaska. Yet, not a single person on the campaign could tell us a single command she issued to the Alaska National Guard. In fact, the guard is under command of the US military while deployed.
The McCain campaign wanted everyone to know that Palin sold the state jet on Ebay. In fact it was listed on Ebay but didn't sell. It was eventually sold to a big party donor at a loss.
On the AIP scandal, here are the facts as we know them:
The McCain campaign says Sarah Palin went to the 2000 AIP convention, also held in Wasilla, "as a courtesy since she was mayor." As governor, Palin sent a video message to the 2008 convention, which is available on YouTube, and the AIP says she attended in 2006 when she was campaigning.
We also know that Palin's husband, Todd, was registered with AIP from October 1995 to July 2000, and again from September 2000 until July 2002. Sourfe: Factcheck.org
Did Mayor or governer palin ever attend other conventions? I wonder if the nazi, communist, and anarchist conventions are feeling left out right about now.
The bottom line is that so many lies are coming from the McCain/Palin camp that I can't keep up. Even their tv ads are full of lies. It's just nausiating.
I hope that the swing voters see through this, and I trust they will. Else, our country is in big trouble if this is the kind of thing they accept.
I'm still optimistic. I have to be.
