Of the many lies, misrepresentations, and fabrications presented by John McCain's running mate in her well written and well presented speech at the RNC this is likely the most misleading:
"In politics there are some candidates who use change to promote their careers. And then there are some candidates like John McCain who use their careers to promote change."
Before the conventions, the race was essentially a battle between Obama's "Change" and McCain's "Experience". As I've argued before, Obama convincingly won that debate in Denver, and thus forced McCain's radical, seat-of-the-pants transformation from "Experienced War Hero Political Insider" to "Change Agent". "Change is coming, change is coming", the new McCain chants, but it's a laughable proposition. In the words of Obama's top political strategist, David Axelrod, "Simply saying the word does not make you the agent of change."
In the course of the Bush Administration, McCain has voted with George W. Bush 90% of the time, including 95% of the time in 2007 and 100% of the time in 2008. While Senator McCain is entitled to accept defeat and take on Barack Obama's message for the remainder of the campaign, he is not, however, entitled to hide from his record. He's still the same foot-soldier in the Bush Revolution. Neither a new running mate, nor a new campaign slogan can give John McCain the change he's obviously looking for.
