The biggest problem in Iraq today. . .

is the lack of political will to do what needs to be done to ensure peace.  The Sons of Iraq were extremely important to the military gains of the surge and now they are being targeted by the Iraqi Government.

The gains made by our brave service men and women are precarious at best, the Iraqi Government's targeting of the Sons of Iraq is only an example of the larger problem.  The problem is a direct result of this administration's failed policy to only pursue a military solution to the war.  A policy might I add that is supported by the Republican candidate for the presidency (I am unsure if the Republicans VP candidate can even comprehend the policy but I'm sure she emphatically defends it).
Had the President heeded the advice of Sens. Obama and Biden and actually sought both a political and military solution we might have actually been well on our way to making significant reductions of our forces in Iraq by now.

Every time some McCain supporter talks about how successful the surge has been, throw this article in their face.  People need to know that while it appears that the surge has been successful the Republican President supported by that party's presidential candidate has not sought to reinforce the gains made in the surge with a political solution to mend the rifts among Iraq's ethnic groups.   A President Obama will look to a political solution as one of the most important objectives of his Iraq policy, and that is why he will be successful in pulling our troops out of Iraq without that country falling apart.  This is just another instance of President Bush and his friend John McCain just not getting it.
