If I were a Republican, that's what I would do - to throw Obama off track and take away focus from him during his big day.

Plus, Republicans are going to be up against a news cycle next week that gives alot of focus to Hurricane Gustav.

We'll know if I am correct or not pretty soon...

Here is what is funny... (ericy - 8/28/2008 7:55:32 PM)

My fiancee and I were just joking around that we never signed up for the McCain text message (doubt that they even had such a thing for real).

And then a moment later, I got a text message.  But this was from Obama reminding me to watch the speech.  Already have CSPAN on anyways - didn't need that reminder :-).

The McCain campaign doesn't have their stuff together (relawson - 8/29/2008 7:49:34 AM)
The Obama campaign - I can guarantee you - will be sending out that same text message in November to remind you to go to the polls.  Can you imagine how many people who don't vote simply because they get caught up in something that day and simply forget!

The key in any tight race will be turnout - so I think this tool gives Obama a distinct advantage.

On the VP announcement, obviously I was wrong on that front.  I think you could argue that strategy (which I thought would occur) as the glass half full, or empty.

Having the announcement early would cut into Obama's big night, but on the flip side it would cut into the Republican's big announcement that will presumably occur today.  I would argue that an acceptance speech is more valuable that a VP announcement - so if this were a game of chance it would be like giving up a bishop for a queen - and well worth it.  So I am going to chalk this up as a missed opportunity on the McCain campaign.  If this were baseball I would call in an error.
