U.S. Senate candidate/juggernaut Mark Warner was in Alexandria last night to address members of the Democratic Latino Organization of Virginia at My Bakery Cafe. There were plenty of non-Latinos (i.e. The Green Miles) who came out to get a glimpse of the former governor, so Arlington County Board Chair Walter Tejada made us honorary Latinos for the night.
Warner got the crowd fired up fast, saying we must embrace Virginia's incredible diversity. Warner said we should punish lawbreakers - not immigrants and their children who've done nothing but work hard, pay their taxes, and make Virginia a stronger state. Other speakers included Alexandria Mayor Bill Euille and Alfonso Lopez, Gov. Kaine's Virginia Liaison Office Director.
Of course, everyone had an eye to their cells and Blackberries to get word of Obama's VP pick. First Drudge reported it was Bayh, then MSNBC reported it was NOT Bayh and not Kaine either, then we got word of Secret Service protection for Biden. Count me among those glad I didn't give up my cell number to the Obama campaign so I could get woken up by a 3am text message telling me something I already knew.
And if you pay attention to nothing else I say in this post, know this: You must go to My Bakery Cafe and try the eclairs. Trust me.
