Governor Tim Kaine took over, telling of his appreciation for area voters, his plans to give the Democratic response to President Bush's State of the Union Address (Kaine's stipulation: he'd write it himself) and his long relationship with Mark Herring (amazingly stretching back to the days when Kaine taught a law school class and Herring was his student). Finally, Mark Herring took the stage, firing up the crowd with a speech that promised to bring better policy to the district, which includes Loudoun and parts of Fairfax county.
The rally ended enthusiastically, with Herring's stepfather, Senator Waddell singing a customized version of the Carter family classic song, Wabash Cannonball to the packed house of 450 supporters. Folks cried out for Kaine to bring out his harmonica--but unfortunately, he had left it at home!
