Gov. Kaine to Lead Climate Change Discussion Today: Suggested Questions

I believe that this  may be one of the best examples of "irony" I've seen in a long time.

Members of the Southern Governors Association are expected to discuss climate change and energy sustainability on Monday, the final day of their four-day meeting in White Sulphur Springs.

The town hall discussion will be led by Virginia Governor Tim Kaine.

Can someone please ask Gov. Kaine how his advocacy for a new coal-fired power plant gibes with the goal of slashing CO2 emissions 80% by 2050 (and probably 50% by 2030, 30% by 2020, 15% by 2010, etc., if we're gonna get there)?  Can someone ask Gov. Kaine how his energy plan, which calls for just a 7% reduction in C02 emissions by 2025 (and is unlikely to achieve even that) will get us to an 80% cut by 2050?  Not even close. And can someone ask Gov. Kaine how coddling Dominion Power, aka "Global Warming Starts Here," including a sweetheart reregulation deal and a reception for the Virginia delegation at Red Rocks in Colorado, is going to help solve global warming?

Just a suggestion, but with questions like these, I think the governors might actually have an interesting and fruitful discussion...not just a lot of "hot air," so to speak. :)

Why didn't Gov. Kaine push for energy savings over more pollution? (chspkheel - 8/11/2008 9:10:56 AM)
If I were able to attend, the question I would like to ask Governor Kaine is why he pushed for the approval of the Coal Fired Plant in Wise County when Dominion had a power savings plan on the table where the "expected energy savings would eliminate the need for two power plants the company would otherwise have to build and delay the need for two other plants"?  Here is the link to the Virginian-Pilot article for reference:

My question (TheGreenMiles - 8/11/2008 9:22:03 AM)
I'd ask if the slogan in his shameless VP campaign ads was originally "Coal Fired Up for Change" but they decided that was stating the obvious.

My question. (spotter - 8/11/2008 10:56:01 AM)
McCain is proposing 45 new nuclear power plants.  Compare and contrast, please.
