Dick Black and Bob Marshall Want to Tell You How to Live..and Die!

Do Republicans ever learn? As if the public didn't disapprove strongly enough of their meddling in the case of Terry Schiavo, now a couple of right-wing extremist Virginia delegates -- Bob "I'm not God...yet" Marshall (R-Prince William) and Dick "Homosexuals are Child Molesters" Black (R-Loudoun) -- want to pass legislation next year to tell us all how and when we can die.
"Batshit Crazy Bob," who usually keeps himself busy telling us how homosexuals are all unfit parents and child molesters, now wants to tell us how to die: "At a minimum, we need to say that you can't just starve someone to death if there is no written declaration by the person in question." Black goes even further, arguing that we need "end-of-life" legislation because "what we went through was one of the most ghastly events in American history."
You heard that right, the Terry Schiavo situation was "one of the most ghastly events in American history" -- up there with 9/11, Pearl Harbor, slavery, lynchings, Vietnam, Lincoln's assassination, disco, etc. Amazing.
Anyway, the desire of the Dick Blacks and Bob Marshalls of the world to tell us how to live AND how to die is not just intrusive and obnoxious, it is really, really dumb politically. According to an ABC News poll (3/20/05):
Americans "broadly and strongly disapprove of federal intervention in the Terri Schiavo case, with sizable majorities saying Congress is overstepping its bounds for political gain.
The public, by 63-28 percent, supports the removal of Schiavo?s feeding tube, and by a 25-point margin opposes a law mandating federal review of her case.
That legislative action is distinctly unpopular: Not only do 60 percent oppose it, more, 70 percent, call it inappropriate for Congress to get involved in this way. And by a lopsided 67-19 percent most think the elected officials trying to keep Schiavo alive are doing so
more for political advantage than out of concern for her or for the principles involved.
Unfortunately, Bob Marshall and Dick Black represent the Taliban Wing of the Republican Party, so they don't care what the American people think. Instead, they want to push their version of "family values" onto the rest of us. That's why it matters so much who is elected Virginia governor this November: when the Black/Marshall "end-of-life" comes to his desk next year, will he veto it or sign it?
The bottom line question here is this: "who do you trust more with decisions regarding the end of your life: Dick Black, Bob Marshall, or your own family and doctor?" And, we might add, which candidate for governor do you believe is most likely to stand up against the Republican Taliban? The answer is simple: if you care about your personal privacy and don't like government telling you what to do, you need to make sure that Jerry Kilgore comes nowhere near the Virginia governor's mansion.
Vote Tim Kaine: for your family, for your future, and for your right to live -- and die -- in peace!

All,
I just wanted to personally thank Janet for coming to the City of Fairfax for her kick-off. She and David are running a clean, fair, and on-the-issues race that I know voters will appreciate, both in June and in November when we elect another Democrat to the House of Delegates AND propel Tim Kaine to the Governor's Mansion.
And please make sure to vist the Fairfax City Democrats at www.farifaxcitydemocrats.org and our blog at wwww.fairfaxcitydems.blogspot.com.
Please attend our May 19th J-J Dinner where Tim Kaine will be the keynote speaker and Janet and Dave share their vision for the 37th!

Just an observation (Tabitha - 4/4/2006 11:26:17 PM)
Just an observation . . . have you noticed how the Kilgore website has to keep defining every word they use? It's like they're afraid their average website user might have trouble with "really big words" like prejudice. It's hilarious in my opinion that they keep trying to convince everyone that Tim makes fun of accents, but they seem to think the everage voter is vocabulary incompetent. Aren't there more important things to do in this camapign besides read Marriam Webster?

KILGORE LAUDS NAAC (Grayson Jennings - 4/4/2006 11:26:17 PM)
KILGORE LAUDS NAACP
This was the banner one-inch headline in today?s Richmond Free Press regarding the appearance of Virginia Republican candidate Jerry Kilgore at a dinner hosted by the NAACP on Friday night. Mr. Kilgore, who has been tepid on supporting a Confederate History Month, had no problem reaching out to the NAACP. Kilgore was not invited to the dinner and had to beg an invitation. His Democratic opponent, Tim Kane, who was officially invited, made a brief appearance. The Free Press, a leading black daily in Richmond, characterized Mr. Kilgore as the ?liberal? and Kane the ?conservative? regarding their appearance Friday evening. Mr. Kilgore received polite applause at the end of his speech.
Four years ago, Republican candidate Mark Early angered the history and heritage community for his appeal of SCV vanity plates, his refusal to support Confederate History Month, and his pandering for minority votes at the expense of his core constituency. Early proudly proclaimed his ?Lifetime NAACP? membership which angered more than the heritage community. Many Virginians no longer view the NAACP as a legitimate civil rights organization but a socialistic liberal political arm of the Democratic Party and basher of Republicans, especially President Bush. Earley received a grand total of approximately 6% of the black vote while losing countless votes. Kilgore appears headed in the same direction.

I think it is wrong for there not to be a Confederate history and heritage month. How come it is our schools dont have a problem educating our children about Martin Luther King Jr and Malcolm X but for someone to bring up the Civil War and the Confederacy is taboo. Why is that? I am proud of my 2x and 3x great grandfathers for fighting for the cause for the Confedrate side. Why not educate about the real reasons for the Civil War it wasn't because of slavery. I shall not and will not support a candidate that can't make a decision about something such as this.

I believe it is esse (Gar Schulin - 4/4/2006 11:26:17 PM)
I believe it is essential that we honor all Virginians through our heritage preservation and education initiatives across the state; in our public schools and universities; in our state and national parks; and in our communities. Our proud and distinguished Virginia- The Mother Of All States- deserves to have her rich history and heritage presented- and taught factually and truthfully- to all citizens and visitors from the world over who come here to learn our unique Virginia and American heritage and the birth of our nation. And that is especially relevent for our Confederate heritage here in Virginia. Confederate history is American history. The War Between the States was a massive rupture of our American political system, and the Confederate States of America were fighting for Constitutional Government as bequeathed to us by our Founding Fathers. Our Founders were deathly afraid of a massive, centralized national government controlling our everyday lives- and everything they warned us about has come to pass- so we are still very much living with the consequences of the War Between the States to this very day and we ought to study and teach it truthfully and learn from it. I fully support honoring the memory of all our Virginia ancestors- men and women, slaves and freemen- who sacrificed so much during four arduous years of unimaginable hardship during the second American Revolution of 1861-65 known correctly as The War Between the States. If we are to safeguard our beloved American country today for future generations, then we must never forget the uncommon valor and supreme sacrifices made by our gallant Virginia forebears and the principles of Constitutional Government for which the South contended and over which the war was waged. The answer to the question, "What does it mean to be an American?" has both a Jeffersonian answer and a Lincolnian answer- both remain diametrically opposed. In order to understand where we are headed as a nation, we must study the past truthfully and seek to learn from it or we will lose all that has been passed down to us by the Founders and the founding citizens of Virginia.
There is only one candidate running for Virginia Governor this year who has the proven record of fiscal conservatism, responsibility to the taxpayer citizens of Virginia and the proven track record to take his word to the bank. There is only one candidate who truly understands the essential truths and historic importance of our Confederate and Virginia heritage to the nation and the world- that man is George Fitch and I will be proud to cast my primary vote for him on June 14th. I urge my fellow Virginians to do the same to bring about real change in Richmond and to bring an end to more "politics as usual."
Our collective Virginia cultural and Southern heritage is being systematically eradicated before our very eyes in the name of Political Correctness by those who are shamelessly intolerant and grossly ignorant of our American history. If we as Virginians cannot safeguard the lessons, the legacy and the honor of our Confederate and American heritage for future generations, then we will indeed lose it forever.
George Fitch is the only candidate for Virginia Governor who understands this, and possesses the intellectual and political courage to simply "do the right thing" by expressing this understanding. Now it is up to all thoughtful and concerned Virginians to stand with George Fitch for less taxation, more local control of state funding and more responsible Government in Richmond. It is long past time to place our Virginia endangered lands and historic resources in the hands of a Governor and our fellow citizens of Virginia who will take immediate actions to safeguard our truly priceless Virginia and American heritage. I urge all Virginians to vote with me on June 14th in the primary election to support George Fitch. Thank you very kindly for your consideration.

I will not support either Kaine or Kilgore due to their unability to take a favorable stand on an issue that is still dear to many of us in this great Commonwealth. They must have forgotten that this great Commonwealth produced the likes of Lee, Jackson, JEB Stuart and Lewis Armistead. All West Pointers that "Duty, Honor, Country" meant something and that it was not a catchy slogan. There are places in the Commonwealth that were drenched in the blood of our fallen ancestors. It is blasphamy to purpose to honor them while honor the side that raped, plundered and pillaged our beloved Commonwealth. Tell Kaine and Kilgore, General Lee surrended- I did not.

I personally felt early on in the race for Governor that Kilgore would be the man that I would support without question. However, his waffling on Confederate History Month and even some of his staff apparently snubbing the Confederate Heritage Crowd has me looking for somewhere else to go. I have hardly ever voted Democrat, but a protest vote is not out of the order for me. Either a candidate is for what I believe or he is against my beliefs. There is no middle ground.
