As challenger Tom Perriello made a whirlwind campaign fundraiser tour Wednesday through Martinsville with author John Grisham, comments from stalwart Republican voters are making Virgil's chances of a seventh term seem shaky.
Perriello is focusing his campaign on his 7-point Economic Revival Plan that will address technical training for employees, infrastructure revitalization, bringing new businesses into the Southside, promoting new energy development, and providing support to the district's small business owners.
Virgil Goode, on the other hand, has shown he is towing the same old tired Republican party mantra. Unfortunately for Virgil, that message no longer appeals to voters in the 5th Congressional District.
True, there are a few, diehard Republicans out there that think Virgil is the greatest thing around. These are a few that refuse to face facts or even bother to research the issues. You know of whom I write.
Fortunately, there are many others who are seeing the light. Based on the photo attached to this diary, perhaps Virgil Goode will soon be thinking about flip-flopping right back to where he started out - in the Democratic Party. There's only one problem with that scenario: as a member of both the Martinsville City and Virginia Democratic Party, I can confidently say that Virgil is no longer welcome in the party of Tom Perriello.
