According to The Politico:
Former Virginia Gov. Jim Gilmore has barely begun his campaign for the Senate, but it's almost impossible to find anyone in statewide Republican circles - outside of his closest allies - who thinks he can actually win.
Despite having a r+¬sum+¬ that most candidates would die for - former governor, former chairman of the Republican National Committee, president of a homeland security think tank and briefly a presidential candidate - Gilmore has become the laughingstock of this year's crop of GOP Senate recruits.
But then again, we all knew this already.

I Hope Gilmore Doesn't Drop Out (Matt H - 7/25/2008 2:15:24 PM)
We should not bark too loudly this early in the process, since we couldn't wish for a better opponent for Warner.
Have you heard any word about (Lowell - 7/25/2008 2:22:17 PM)
Gilmore dropping out? I haven't even heard the slightest inkling of that.
That would mean actually hearing 'anything' (Pain - 7/25/2008 2:29:22 PM)
And, at this point, I don't think anyone knows the republicans actually have someone running. :)
that will probably help their chances. (spotter - 7/25/2008 3:27:59 PM)
Nothing (Matt H - 7/25/2008 2:50:40 PM)
But I'm sure many republicans would accept any excuse (more time with the family, etc.) to have him withdraw.
It's getting pretty late for him (Lowell - 7/25/2008 2:54:06 PM)
to withdraw. The election's in like 100 days.
My thought is that... (Johnny Camacho - 7/25/2008 8:59:07 PM)
Gilmore is only running for Senate as a stepping stone to the job he really wants: CEO of ExxonMobil.
