U.S. SENATE CANDIDATE MARK WARNER RAISES MORE THAN $2.9 MILLION IN LATEST QUARTER
~ 81% in-state; $5.1 million cash-on-hand ~ALEXANDRIA - U.S. Senate candidate Mark Warner raised $2,928,572 in the Federal Election Commission (FEC) quarter ending June 30, 2008. More than 81% (7,170) of the individual donors during the 2nd quarter were Virginia residents. The 2nd quarter featured a significant Warner campaign TV advertising buy, and the campaign committee ended the quarter with approximately $5.1 million cash-on-hand.
"We are grateful that so many Virginians are actively supporting Governor Warner's campaign to take his record of honest, common-sense results to Washington," said Warner campaign spokesman Kevin Hall. "Governor Warner has a proven record of bringing people together to make real change, and that is the type of responsible, bipartisan leadership that Virginians want to see in Congress."
Previously, the Governor's campaign committee reported raising $2.5 million in the FEC's 1st Quarter ending March 31st, 2008, $2.7 million in the 4th quarter of 2007, and $1.1 million during the two-week period in the 3rd quarter of 2007 in which Warner was an active U.S. Senate candidate.

Deeds Outpaces Moran in First Fundraising Period of 2009 Governor's RaceDeeds Adds Additional $350k to Campaign War Chest, Moran About $200k
RICHMOND-Senator R. Creigh Deeds campaign won the cash chase in the first six months of the year, adding more than $350,000 to his cash-on-hand total while his likely opponent in the June 2009 Democratic Primary, Del. Brian Moran, was only able to net about $200,000 according to a news release from his campaign. Fundraising reports are due to be filed today with the State Board of Elections.
With a net pickup of more than $350,000, Deeds began July with more than $650,000 in the bank.
"Our campaign is making huge strides because donors from every corner of Virginia are responding to my message of creating opportunity and continuing the Warner-Kaine brand of leadership that has brought us so far," said Deeds. "We are meeting our goals, outperforming our opponent, and with this level of success we will be able to fund our campaign plan 100 percent."
Senator Deeds' campaign committees raised a combined $782,586 in the first six months of 2008, ending June with $650,452 cash on hand. He received 1,226 contributions from 1,115 donors, with more than half of contributors donating $100 or less and more than 75 percent didn't contribute in 2007. His campaign held more than 40 fundraising events throughout the period in Fairfax, Great Falls, Leesburg, Ashburn, Virginia Beach, Norfolk, Portsmouth, Richmond, Charlottesville, Roanoke and many other cities and towns throughout the Commonwealth.
Moran Files Campaign Finance ReportALEXANDRIA - Virginians for Brian Moran filed its first campaign finance report in accordance with today's filing deadline with the Virginia State Board of Elections. The report shows $1,380,365 million in contributions, as was announced on Monday, July 7. The report summary sheet (schedule H) is attached to this release.
"We are very proud of Delegate Moran's fundraising success this year," spokesman Jesse Ferguson said. "This report shows a significant base of support with the potential to meet the long-term needs of financing a gubernatorial campaign."
The committee reported $924,292 on hand as of June 30, more than the $800,000 estimate released in last week's announcement. The accounting staff provided a conservative estimate for the early release, which has been revised due to less expense at the end of the period than anticipated.
Moran's fundraising exceeds the amount raised by then-Lieutenant Governor Tim Kaine and then-Attorney General Jerry Kilgore during the first half of 2004, the most recent comparable fundraising period. Moran's $1.38 million sets Virginia's record for candidates without a previous statewide campaign.
Virginians for Brian Moran is Delegate Brian Moran's candidate campaign committee for his gubernatorial bid.
Note: Brian Moran's campaign just released a statement saying, "Virginians for Brian Moran brought in $1.38 million this period, nearly double that of Senator Deeds and significantly more than Attorney General McDonnell. Moran has 42 percent more cash-on-hand than Senator Deeds."
Delegate Steve Shannon Posts Strong Financial ReportVienna, VA-Delegate Steve Shannon's campaign committee, Friends of Steve Shannon, announced today that Delegate Shannon raised over $500,000 in anticipation of his run for Virginia Attorney General in 2009, with over $448,000 in the bank to date.
"During my travels across the Commonwealth, I have been extremely pleased and humbled by the deep level of support and encouragement from my fellow Virginians. My issues are their issues: protecting our kids, protecting consumers from fraud and identity theft, and protecting our communities from gangs and violent crime. Because of the early support of so many of my fellow citizens, we have the necessary resources to promote my vision for Virginia in every region of the Commonwealth," Shannon said.
Delegate Steve Shannon is a former Fairfax County prosecutor and co-founded the Metropolitan Washington AMBER Alert program in 2001-a program designed to assist law enforcement and communities recover abducted children. First elected to the Virginia House of Delegates in 2003, Delegate Shannon brought Democrats and Republicans together to pass nationally recognized child safety legislation. Subsequently, Governor Kaine appointed Delegate Shannon to serve on the Governor's Commission on Sexual Violence.
Bowerbank lends support to 2008 candidatesROSEDALE, Virginia-July 15, 2008-Jon Bowerbank has been traveling across the Commonwealth, logging more than 22,000 miles in support of Mark Warner and other 2008 Democratic candidates. As Bowerbank lends his support and assistance to Virginia Democrats this year, he also has begun raising funds for his own 2009 Lieutenant Governor campaign.
On July 1, 2008, the Bowerbank campaign kicked off its initial fundraising efforts with the addition of Jamie Nolan, former fundraiser for the Democratic Party of Virginia. With Nolan's help, the Bowerbank campaign plans to aggressively solicit funds that will be necessary to defeat its opponent, an entrenched Republican incumbent. After just a few days, the campaign is pleased to report that the campaign's fundraising effort is already off to a great start, with pledged contributions in excess of $50,000.
On July 15, 2008, Bowerbank's campaign for Lieutenant Governor will file its finance report with the Virginia State Board of Elections. The campaign will report cash contributions of $170,100 and in-kind contributions of $56,606, as well as $107,660 cash on hand. This is just the beginning of what the Bowerbank for Lieutenant Governor campaign expects to be an extraordinarily well-funded - and ultimately victorious - campaign for Lieutenant Governor of Virginia in 2009.
Perriello Continues Record-Breaking CampaignIndividual Donations from all 22 Localities in District Support Campaign for New Leadership
July 16, 2008-Ivy, VA-The second quarter fundraising reports just filed with the Federal Election Commission show that Democratic challenger Tom Perriello has continued to outraise incumbent Rep. Virgil Goode this election cycle and broke Democratic fundraising records for the fourth straight quarter in the race for the fifth congressional district.
"Even while rejecting all donations from lobbyists and corporate interest groups, Tom Perriello has continued to generate support at a record pace," said Jessica Barba, Perriello's communications director. "Additionally, our campaign has opened six offices, logged thousands of volunteer hours, and knocked on thousands of doors as we build the largest grassroots movement this district has ever seen. This campaign is not only prepared to win, but prepared to win the right way."
In the second quarter, the Perriello campaign raised $313,000 with over 95% coming from individuals. With donations from every county and municipality in the district, Perriello has raised over $920,000 this election cycle. Almost 25% of Rep. Goode's fundraising this cycle has come from political action committees. He has raised over $1.5 million from corporate and DC lobbyists during his congressional career, including over $100,000 from oil, gas, and electric utility interest groups.
With 111 days until Election Day, the Perriello campaign has already raised more than any previous Democratic challenger to Rep. Goode. The Perriello campaign also has logged over 3000 volunteer hours, and tithed 325 hours to local charities through its volunteer tithing initiative. Mr. Perriello has been on the road all July, meeting with voters in all 22 counties and municipalities in the fifth district, discussing his seven-point plan for economic revival. The campaign has opened offices in Franklin County, Bedford, Danville, Martinsville, Farmville and Charlottesville.
(btw - didn't Gilmore have more than $200k on hand at the primary?)
Former governor James S. Gilmore III, a Republican candidate for U.S. Senate, raised $250,000 between May 21 and June 31.
But it honestly was a genuine surprise and LOL. I had to do a double take, and had to concentrate to not yank the wheel whilst I did so.

I confess, I figured the 11th to be a cake-walk for whichever Democrat won the nomination. Perhaps I was wrong.
