The American leader, who has been condemned throughout his presidency for failing to tackle climate change, ended a private meeting with the words: "Goodbye from the world's biggest polluter."He then punched the air while grinning widely, as the rest of those present including Gordon Brown and Nicolas Sarkozy looked on in shock
You know, it's just that sad. What a pitiful, repulsive idiot we've had running this country for the last 8 years. He's not an exception within the conservative movement, he's the rule. It's precisely this kind of in your face, arrogance that has driven America to the brink and Bush's legacy into the toilet.
Stay classy, George!
I'd like to share this one, but the sources are not going to inspire confidence.
good point, I'll add it to the post.
Self-loathing, self-aggrandizing, f**ktard.
This story should play out nicely in the European press tomorrow and throughout the weekend. Let's check out the editorial comments in particular and replay some of them on this side of the pond. Sure hope that some video of this "private" G8 farewell meeting leaks out. Bet the Italians will leak a bootleg copy after the embarrassment dished out to Berlusconi this week by Bush's increasingly sloppy staff.
It should also be possible to cause a little Republican distress by pointing to several European press reports indicating that the Bush White House has been pressuring Angela Merkel to prevent Obama from enjoying a good backdrop (such as the Brandenburg Gate, where Reagan called on Gorbachev to "tear down this wall") for a major address in Germany.
But if Bush succeeds in pressuring Merkel to deny Obama access to the Brandenburg Gate, a spectacular alternative would be Sanssouci, Frederick the Great's palace in nearby Potsdam. The garden at the base of the steps at Sanssouci--and the broad levels of steps themselves--could accommodate a huge crowd. The best time and light would be around sunset. It might be a good moment to suggest that the time has come for a true restoration--of the Enlightenment.
One can easily understand the concern at the Bush White House and in McCain's camp. Can you imagine the contrast that Obama's address would draw to the stumbling, bumbling, arrogant, out-of-touch Bush or McCain?
The Bush administration has decided not to take any new steps to regulate greenhouse gas emissions before the president leaves office, despite pressure from the Supreme Court and broad accord among senior federal officials that new regulation is appropriate now.[...]
The Supreme Court, in a decision 15 months ago that startled the government, ordered the EPA to decide whether human health and welfare are being harmed by greenhouse gas pollution from cars, power plants and other sources, or to provide a good explanation for not doing so. But the administration has opted to postpone action instead, according to interviews and documents obtained by The Washington Post.To defer compliance with the Supreme Court's demand, the White House has walked a tortured policy path, editing its officials' congressional testimony, refusing to read documents prepared by career employees and approved by top appointees, requesting changes in computer models to lower estimates of the benefits of curbing carbon dioxide, and pushing narrowly drafted legislation on fuel-economy standards that officials said was meant to sap public interest in wider regulatory action.
Excuse me? The White House is defying the Supreme Court and also the law on a crucially important issue? Ummmm...now, why are we not [cough, spineless Democrats] impeaching these bastards [cough, Congress has absolutely no backbone or balls] exactly?
There's an old Irish adage: there's nothing so bad that it couldn't be worse. Exhibit A, ladies and gentlemen, our President/Vice President pairing....
Folks, we better bring back the civics CLASSES in high schools.
Stirke that. We maybe ought to simply start with R-E-S-P-E-C-T!!!
"This president may occupy the White House - but for the last six years the position of leader of the free world has remained open. And it's time to fill that role once more."
