A second poll in less than a month shows Barack Obama beating John McCain in Virginia. This time, a Rasmussen poll shows the following:
Obama :45 (+1 from 5/8)
McCain: 44 (-3 from 5/8)
Undecided: 7
This is on top of a Survey USA poll from just a couple weeks ago that showed Obama up 49-42 and an Obama/Edwards ticket besting McCain/Pawlenty 54-36 in the commonwealth.
Rasmussen also polled the US Senate race:
Warner: 60 (+5 from 5/8)
Gilmore: 33 (-4 from 5/8)
Undecided: 7
Also striking is the contrast between how Virginians view Warner and Gilmore:
Warner's favorability ratings have also improved. The Democrat is viewed favorably by 70% of Virginia voters and unfavorably by 24%. Gilmore's numbers are 46% favorable, 42% unfavorable.

Virginia's ripe for the taking. (Catzmaw - 6/16/2008 6:37:06 PM)
We shouldn't take anything for granted. I've been working on my Clarke County sister and friends up there along the West Virginia border. Loudoun County needs work, too, but it can be done.

It's fun to speculate. What could Mark Warner do to lose this race? If it comes out that Mark Warner eats manatee casserole every Sunday and wears panda-skin underwear, would he lose to Gilmore? What if the Washington Times exposed him as an illegal immigrant? A member of MS-13? Robert Mugabe in disguise? Would he still beat Gilmore? I'm going to say yes, but it would be close.
