Perriello Campaign Launches First Ad on Christian RadioJune 16, 2008-Ivy, VA-The Perriello for Congress campaign has launched its first paid advertisement on Christian radio stations. The content of the ad is as follows:
"In the book of Micah, the prophet asks, what does the Lord require of you? The answer: to do justice, to love mercy, and to walk humbly with our God. I'm Tom Perriello, and my attempt to answer this call has taken my life in some interesting directions... I've worked overseas to bring warlords to justice and to end the genocide in Darfur. Back home, I've founded faith-based organizations that bring Catholics and evangelicals together to improve wages and expand children's healthcare for working families.
And now I'm running for Congress in the community where I was born and raised because I believe we deserve leaders who will focus on right and wrong instead of right and left - leaders who will do the hard work required to bring good jobs back to Southside, to expand access to health care, protect our Social Security, and find responsible, timely solutions in Iraq. I'm Tom Perriello, and I approve this message because these are the values and priorities I will take to Congress. Paid for by Perriello for Congress."

So, what do people think about this?
Perriello is utilizing the services of Common Good Strategies, a Democratic political consulting firm that "build authentic relationships with America's diverse religious communities." I think this will be a worthwhile effort for Perriello's campaign to find votes that have alluded Democratic candidates in the past.
In order for Democrats to start winning in some of the more red areas of America we must start speaking in terms of shared values, and that's going to require showing voters that the teachings of all major world religions (for most battleground areas, Christianity) emphasize caring for one another and respecting one another--not war and homophobia.
In my 62/38 winning campaign over a strongly backed and funded Republican opponent last year in Roanoke County, I spent a substantial percentage of my media advertising on the popular local talk radio show, thought to be the sole dominion of conservatives. Wrong!
Tom Periello has chosen this particular venue quite wisely, and I maintain that it will pay great dividends to his campaign in November.
To coin a phrase; please stay the course, Tom.
Thanks!
