Compare the situation in Iraq then with now. Think about the "surge," combined with the conversion of Anbar's Sunni tribes against al Qaeda (NOT a result of military force, but a political negotiation for which we are paying the Sunnis cold cash), about where we are with Iran today, and about the Iraqi government's showing some spine in rejecting Bush's colonization of their country when they refused to agree to the proposed status of forces. And did not Allen claim the US did not want permanent bases in Iraq, yet that is exactly what Bush's proposals envision and John McCain approves? Have we really made any progress, is a Democratic Congress really making a difference, has anybody really listened to Webb?
