Gilmore in Cartoon Land

I'm a piranha! They're in the Amazon!
Darla from Finding Nemo

As we enter the general election season, the stage is set.  Obama will top the ticket, and Mark Warner will lead the charge for Democrats across the commonwealth.  Warner left office with a nearly 80% approval rating and leads polls for the Senate seat by nearly 20 points.

On the other hand, Former Republican Governor Jim Gilmore was recently humiliated as he narrowly defeated extreme right-wing delegate Bob Marshall for his party's nomination.  In order for Gilmore to have a chance against Mark Warner, he's going to have to throw some dirt, but today's attempt is just pitiful.

Gilmore, who preceded Warner as chief executive, had particularly harsh words for the Democrat's record on taxes and spending.

"Mark Warner is just like a hungry piranha. There's just no end to his appetite for other people's tax dollars," said Gilmore.

This is scary talk from a guy who won on a single issue, "no car tax", which left the commonwealth spiraling towards bankruptcy.  It was only the expert bi-partisan effort of such "get 'er done" Democratic heroes as Mark Warner, Tim Kaine, and Brian Moran that lead to life-saving tax reform package that directed billions of much-needed dollars to localities for education and transportation.

What is it going to take for Republicans to wake up to the fact that Responsible Government is an American Value?  The old politics of division and platitudes is over. America demands good governance.

If this is the best that Jim Gilmore can do, he's going to have a very lonely November.
