Orange Line Update: Only "Minor Delays" Expected Today

According to WTOP:

Expect only minor delays if you ride the Orange Line Tuesday.

Metro had said delays would be at least 30 minutes as trains shared the same track between the Clarendon and Foggy Bottom stations.

But just after 5 a.m., spokeswoman Farbstein said some repairs have been made to a damaged track in the area, and only minor delays are expected.

She says speed restrictions in the direction of Vienna will add a minute or two to your commute.

As you've probably heard, an Orange Line Metrorail train partially derailed yesterday afternoon as it traveled between the Rossyln and Court House stations in Arlington. This caused serious delays during yesterday's evening rush hour, but thankfully no injuries. Once again, this points out that need for a dedicated funding source so that Metro can conduct needed repairs and upgrades to its system.

Got caught in that yesterday (perkinsms - 6/10/2008 6:59:09 AM)
I was delayed coming home due to the derailment.  I was home about an hour later than normal (normally a 45 minute commute); a friend was nice enough to pick me up at Farragut West to get over the damaged section.

I hope WMATA is able to issue a statement about the derailment to say whether a lack of funding led to the problem.  Some will call it a ploy to get more money, but I'm with Lowell in arguing that we need a dedicated funding source.

The hold up, as usual, is the VA House.

I had to use the orange line today... (Bryan Scrafford - 6/10/2008 11:59:29 AM)
... to go downtown for a meeting. There were no delays beyond the usual rush hour slowdowns.
