I know approximately 150 to 175 relatives, neighbors and casual and close friends, all feeling the sadness that came when Hillary gave that great concession speech and advised her followers to do their utmost to support his run for the presidency. And listen to her we will, almost all of those friends and relatives (save three), who will now offer our assistance and support in the same amounts, no less, I pledge, than those fervent college students, blacks, Hispanics, etc., who made up Barack's support population and would have generously supplied a Hillary Clinton for President campaign (despite their statements in recent polls), again, had she won the nomination.
As you see, there are no hard feelings, and we will continue to wish the that Sen. Obama and his supporters get what they assuredly deserve.
... offer our assistance and support in the same amounts, no less, I pledge, than those fervent college students, blacks, Hispanics, etc., who made up Barack's support population ...
Apparently all us white folk over the age of 21 have been fervent Clinton supporters.
... there are no hard feelings, and we will continue to wish the that Sen. Obama and his supporters get what they assuredly deserve.
Gracious and sincere.
But here's the thing; I know that I and my friends and family WOULD have supported Hillary if she'd secured the nomination, even though I had serious questions about her suitability for the position. I STILL would have thought her far superior to McCain, and my interest would have been in trying to do the best for this country under the circumstances, rather than in accordance with whether or not MY favorite candidate had secured the nomination. I'm far more interested in who can best secure the goals the Democratic party has set for this election, and it ain't McCain. But you go ahead. Keep telling yourself that everyone who supported Hillary was a saint and everyone who supported Obama was a "fervent" college smartass or racially oriented African American. That appears to be your assumption, even though I saw plenty of footage of both college kids and African Americans in Hillary's crowds, just as I saw plenty of white people in Obama's crowds. Never mind that the vast majority of people in both campaigns were just decent people, not insulting or harming anyone, who were just working hard for their candidates. It's easier to see someone as an enemy when you dehumanize him and turn him into a disagreeable monolith for you to despise.
I guess it's okay for you to keep on making sarcastic, snide remarks about Obama supporters. Keep wallowing in your bitterness as the rest of world passes you by, and I can only say that if Obama loses because you and yours decide to sabotage his campaign either by not supporting it or by voting against him in the fall then you will have gotten what you deserve when you wake up the next day with vengeance sated and the realization that in order to have it you brought in another four years of Republican misrule and the sure knowledge that those who realize what the misguided, Obama-hating Clinton supporters have done will guarantee that any role she or Bill have in the Democratic party would end then and there. Hillary's smart enough to understand this. Let's hope she can get that idea through her supporters' brains before they effectively destroy her status in the party forever.
I can't sabotage an ice cream cone.
BUT, I'll tell you this. Keep it under your hat. I can't get drafted (no draft) or join up too fight in Iraq (Im old), so I have no fear of McCain's militarism.
I do much better financially under the Republicans, with their great (for me) taxes on income, dividends and cap. gains.
I don't NEED welfare of any sort, and I have Medicare, Long term Care insurance, and lotsa cash and 2 pensions.
I guess that what I'm trying to tell you is that if McCain got in, I'd be much better off! Under that Republican misrule! For me it's foolish to be a Democrat because, like the Kansans, I'm voting against my self-interests, my bread on the table, when I vote Democratic. Yet I'm a Democrat, because I believe in fairness and would never attack an Obama supporter, only ask reasons why, and discuss them. And give my reasons for supporting Hillary. That progression was changed by the inane, almost insane, vicious and mean statements made to me and mine for merely suggesting here that Hillary was a better choice, in the days when RK was open and not strident.
I never said that "everybody" or "All people" or "Every" does anything or is anything. I never use terms like that unless I've made a rare oversight. Of course I know that Obama has many supporters who are white and over 21. That's why I used the "etc." term. The majority of responders to the early things I wrote about supporting Hillary WERE attacking me with loaded hateful venom--go back and check--I have. I never said anything bad about Obama. But if you can say that Bill Clinton was racist because he called Obama's stance on the war a "fairy tale," hell, who am I to complain about the minor slights to my scribblings? Or my character.
I guess it ain't enough to be a wartime vet, a staunch Democrat (against one's self interest), a worker for Democratic candidates, and so on. Damn, I just KNEW I had to support Obama as well, or all those other virtues were as worthless as pig-droppings.
A famous wise man (not Bill Clinton) said that one should not argue a universal from a particular, if I remember correctly. Just because one of your "friends" was badgered, and maybe you thought or felt you were badgered, doesn't mean that all Hillary supporters would bug you. I, a Hillary supporter, lukewarm at that, couldn't care less if you vote for Obama. What intrigues me is the "Why" of that vote.
I don't think it's fair to tar Raising Kaine with the same brush that it may be fair to tar certain folks who diaried here. I don't think Lowell or any of the posters here (and I could be wrong) ever insulted anyone for their choices or refused to discuss or explain plainly why they would have chosen to support Obama.
I do recall several outraged posts and comments regarding the tactics and statements of the Clintons and/or their surrogates.
Honestly, this thing could have gone either way. You are obviously not happy with the way it went. I'm sorry about that and believe me when I tell you that I know how that feels. All too well. But we NEED YOU in order to end our national nightmare.
I beg you, please forgive those who have trespassed against you. I know it's happened. Obviously. It's politics. But without you, and all those like you, our nation and our world remain in peril.
Thanks.
I understand this is very disheartening, and I even think it's fun to poke a little sarcasm at this point in time.
However, if you stand for what Hillary was fighting for all along, and she said it best, then WE must elect Barack Obama President.
And do you really think ANYONE "deserves" four more years of Bush-like government? A Supreme Court that will overturn Roe v Wade? Anti-gay executive orders that deprive people of their God-given rights? Spiraling high energy costs with no conservation or national energy strategy?
And the list goes on....
It's understandable and fine to be angry or disappointed, but for the sake of our country, I hope you find time for forgiveness of any perceived ill-will and unite for the good of all of us.
