Moving on, the right way.

Today at noon in DC, Sen. Clinton is expected to endorse Sen. Obama for President.  Undoubtedly, she'll express her gratitude to her supporters, and she'll ask them to join her in an effort to help elect Sen. Obama to the Presidency.

She can acknowledge the disappointment and hurt feelings.  She can deplore the negative tactics that both sides felt compelled to use.  She can chide the media for focusing on trivial but more sensational issues and for perpetuating sexist and racist stereotypes.

But, what if...

She pivots and accepts primary responsibility for falling just a bit short?

She could use that vital note of humility to remind us that there is nothing more important than moving on to the goal of defeating Sen. McCain and every other downballot candidate, Republican or Democrat, who would obstruct President Obama's program to get us out of Iraq and begin to address all the other priorities that President Bush has neglected.

What if she pledges to use her evident energy to continue to campaign all over the country between now and November both for Sen. Obama and for the candidates he'll need next year?

What if she begins to fulfill that pledge tomorrow right here in VA-11 on behalf of Leslie Byrne?
It seems like a natural fit to me, and the timing couldn't be better.  Disappointed feminist supporters of Sen. Clinton might be especially motivated to not only help Byrne because she's a woman, but also because Byrne is arguably stronger on progressive issues than Clinton herself.

Even if my fantasy doesn't pan out, the nearby energy, optimism, drive, and commitment will be there ripe for the taking by both the Byrne campaign and voters in VA-11 who yearn to jump on the change bandwagon.

We could do a lot worse than Connolly, but why even go there when we can flood the polls for Byrne, an incredibly dedicated, talented, and experienced true progressive?

Voters of VA-11, step one on the road to showing gratitude to Sen. Clinton, expressing support for Sen. Obama, and honoring the best part of ourselves and our country is overcoming our apathy, no matter how much fearful and ignorant defenders of the status quo try to exploit it, and voting for Leslie Byrne!

If Clinton becomes Obama's number one surrogate, it will be the best thing for her, her supporters, Obama, and the country.

Leslie Byrne and Judy Feder (Lowell - 6/7/2008 8:33:27 AM)
could be great "connectors" between President Obama and a powerful Hillary Clinton in the Senate.  For starters, how about some universal health care? With Byrne and Feder helping Obama, the prospects brighten.  With Connolly and Wolf, not so much.

Clinton and Obama have already surprised us once with their secret meeting the other day.  What if they continue to surprise us with a joint appearance at Clinton's event today?  Imagine their clasped raised hands, confetti raining down, screaming thousands, and this song begins to play!

Surrogate or is Suffergate? (veryblue - 6/8/2008 4:53:38 PM)
After Bryne helped Tim Kaine win the governorship, Kaine supports Connolly. He didn't even call after the election in 2005 and thank her for her support!

Although Clinton has more popular votes than Obama you suggest she run around to all the little Democratic women candidates and support their sweet election bids. Must be woman's work -- supporting the Democratic Party without any support from the DNC or DPVA in return. Clinton has a job in the US Senate and I so hope she refuses to campaign this fall.  The people of New York deserves "on-the-floor" representation.

As for jsrutstein who suggests that Clinton could at least be a surrogate -- "replace" or "deputy" for Obama to show her humility, doing the "little lady" things, harkens back to an earlier email which exposed the Obama supporters for trashing Clinton with all the ugly words for a woman that can be found in the English language. Let Ms. Obama, with her hate for white American, do that job. She definitely needs a few lessons in humility, too.
