NLS: Tom Davis to Endorse Gerry Connolly?!?

Wow, if this is true, it's really pathetic.

From a James Walkinshaw email:

"P.S.  We'll be announcing a major new endorsement at the rally Saturday.  You don't want to miss it!"

I have confirmed with sources close to Congressman Tom Davis that he is the secret endorsement for Connolly on Saturday.

Of course, given that Gerry Connolly not only failed to help Chap Petersen last year in his race against Tom Davis' wife Jeannemarie, but was even strongly rumored to have worked against Chap behind the scenes, it wouldn't be terribly surprising. In a way, even though I support Leslie Byrne, I hope that Not Larry Sabato is wrong on this one.

Wha? (JamesBenjamin - 6/5/2008 6:18:12 PM)
Presumably there is a R running in the fall right? Why on earth would Davis endorse a D if he's going to try to stay influential? (IE: a K-st lobbying position)

I mean I guess its possible, but really unlikely.

Tom Davis is a weirdo. (jsrutstein - 6/5/2008 6:49:40 PM)
I can totally see Davis endorsing Connolly for the primary and Fimian for the general.  I can even see him making that clear before Tuesday's primary.  And, it wouldn't be like Rush Limbaugh's meddling to have non-Democrats cross over and vote for Hillary Clinton to keep the chaos going.  Instead, Davis would try to convince us that the Democratic nominee should be the one Davis (and SAIC) likes best, but that we should all turn around and vote for Fimian in November, but, if we don't, at least we'll get Davis's second choice.  I know that's a ridiculous argument to try to make, but look at Davis's screed to his fellow Republicans about re-branding themselves.  The guy's lost it.  I hope he does endorse Connolly, because I think it may inspire the type of passionate true Democratic reaction to vote for Byrne that she'll need to win.

Connolly's an idiot (Chris Guy - 6/5/2008 6:59:13 PM)
This is an endorsement you want for the general election, not in a primary.

It's not true (anarchangel - 6/6/2008 12:03:04 PM)
There is absolutely no evidence of this.  It is just a NLS fabrication.

You keep saying that over and over (Lowell - 6/6/2008 12:08:20 PM)
but how do you KNOW Ben is wrong?  Again, I am NOT saying he's right, necessarily, but you say he's wrong with such certainty.
