Allen reverses, gives up Abramoff moneyWASHINGTON -- Sen. George Allen did a reversal yesterday and elected to go with the flow of leaders racing to dump political donations by lobbyist Jack Abramoff. . . .
This week, Allen's aides said he wasn't going to give up the Abramoff-linked money. The announcement of Allen's plans came late in the same day that the Virginia Democratic Party thrashed Allen, accusing him of hypocrisy.
In 2000, Allen had criticized then-Democratic Sen. Charles S. Robb over campaign contributions six years earlier from a controversial donor tied to Bill Clinton and Al Gore, the Democrats said.
Remember, this is his second "reverse course" moment in a month. A reputation as someone who flip-flops for political convenience isn't a good thing heading into election season for our looking-for-a-better-gig Senator.
