UPDATE by Lowell: And it got off to a grand start last night with a speech by "Deadeye Dick" Cheney, in which he -- shocker! -- blamed everything on the Democrats and said Republicans have all the answers ("Whether the issue is the economy, or energy, or the federal courts or national security, the right answers are coming not from the Democrats, but from the Republicans."). He also, predictably (yawn...) raised 9/11 and politicized that as well ("The fact that we have gone more than 6-1/2 years without another 9/11 is not an accident - it's an achievement" -- for the Bush Administration, that is). Oh yeah, and it would be a "betrayal" to pull out of Iraq. Typical hyper-partisan, fear-mongering rubbish from Waterboarder in Chief.
UPDATE #2 by Lowell: The Daily Press writes that one party member described the the party as "on the edge," while "another said the GOP suffered from 'an identity issue.'" Yeah, as in will the Virginia GOP be ultra far right or just far right.
