There is a diary on the rec list over at Kos, CNN reports Evangelicals for Obama. Now I have seen everything, which is actually soon to be the focus of my job. I'm moving down to D.C. next weekend to help the Obama campaign, and some down ticket races, reach out to the under 45 evangelical vote.
It is not just CNN reporting on it, but also today's Seattle Times... Polling suggest the evangelical coalition is breaking away from being built on two issues (abortion and gay-marriage).
So I'm headed to DC to help out from late May through early September. But, am having a terrible time finding housing on the cheap. I'm an M.Div student, and am being payed like it, and just cannot afford much.
I thought somebody in the progressive community may be willing to help out. If you, or somebody you know, cannot get on the ground for Obama because of work, are a maxed out donor, or are interested in seeing Democrats make inroads into the religious voting block - perhaps this could be a great way to help out.
I can offer a little in rent, and can clean, walk pets, watch kids etc. I just need a small room - can even get a blow-up mattress to sleep on. It is getting down to crunch time...only found out they were sending me to DC last week...and want to get to work asap. I'm fired up! Think this election is going to fundamentally reshape the electorate, and look forward to being part of it. If your willing to help house a Seminarian for a few months to help out the cause this cycle please shoot me an email at BGrant@princeton.edu.
You may be able to find a good sublet until you figure out what is going on in the city. I personally have found two homes through Craigslist, so that may be good.
Also: For short term: Youth Hostel.
There is a youth Hostel in DC that shoudl be somewhat cheap, I would try maybe getting there while you find more permaneant digs.
Good luck!
