Is Your Legislator Pro-Constitution or Anti-Constitution?

At the start of each new Congress, in January of every odd-numbered year, the entire House of Representatives and one-third of the Senate takes an oath of office.

"I, _____________, do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support and defend the constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; that I take this obligation freely, without any mental reservation or purpose of evasion; and that I will well and faithfully discharge the duties of the office on which I am about to enter. So help me God."

Like many of you, I am a little concerned that some members of the Senate and the House may have already forgotten about their oath to uphold the Constitution.  This is troubling because the Constitution is under assault from a runaway executive that has shown more than a willingness, an eagerness, to disregard the Constitution and the laws of the United States as passed by both house of Congress. Our Senators and Representatives, Democrat and Republican, need our support to help them fulfill their oaths.

Here is what I propose: write, e-mail, fax or call your Senators and your Representative and ask them to repeat their oath of office in January 2006. We know they aren?t required to, but if we ask them to repeat their oaths it will do two things: it will encourage the legislators who are willing to stand up for the Constitution and it will serve warning to those who are inclined to knuckle under to pressure from the Bush administration.

To send an e-mail to your Representative, use the "Write Your Representative" service.
