It's right around the corner from where I work (Ron1 - 4/28/2008 3:00:59 PM)
I'll RSVP and try to attend, schedule willing.

The only thing that annoys me ever-so-slightly (Ron1 - 4/28/2008 3:00:03 PM)
Notice anything missing from these fliers?

[Hint: Pretend you don't follow politics much. Which political party is he in?

It would be nice if the Guv could help 'brand' the Democratic party -- too many years of Dems being afraid to call themselves Dems.]

That's not what Warner is about (DanG - 4/28/2008 3:31:58 PM)
If you're looking for a hyper-partisan politician, that isn't Mark Warner.  He's not about party politics.  I, for one, find it refreshing.

He's done enough for the Democratic Party already.  People know he's a Democrat; Democratic Candidates remind everybody everywhere, anyways. :)

Warner said he's running as a (Lowell - 4/28/2008 3:34:06 PM)
"radical centrist."  As long as that includes a health does of economic populism, progressivism, and social libertarianism (a la Jim Webb), I'll be very happy.

To complete the thought... (Lowell - 4/28/2008 3:35:16 PM)
...some people, like Johnny Joannou for instance, have a "D" after their name but aren't progressive at all.  No thanks.

Oh, I know (Ron1 - 4/28/2008 4:24:41 PM)
And I don't have any doubts he'll be a hard-working Senator that I'll agree with most of the time. There are a lot of problems to fix in this country, and he seems like someone very likely to help address a number of these issues and find good, workable solutions.

I also do like the "Virginia Independence. Real Results." branding, I just would like it more if it read "Virginia Independence. Real Results. Democrat for U.S. Senate." (or something similar).

Just some friendly constructive criticism for the Guv!

And you are no doubt right that the down-ticket races will make sure that people within their district know that "Mark Warner -- Democrat" is leading the charge. It's an understatement to say, he'll be a pretty in-demand guy on the trail this summer and fall. Which is good for us.

can i just say... (notwaltertejada - 4/28/2008 3:39:19 PM)
that "nova" is not a place it is a community college. i never heard northern virginia referred to as "nova" until i came to southern virginia for college.

According to (Lowell - 4/28/2008 3:43:02 PM)
Wikipedia:

Northern Virginia (also referred to as "NOVA" or "NoVA") consists of Arlington, Fairfax, Loudoun, and Prince William counties, and the independent cities of Alexandria, Falls Church, Fairfax, Manassas, and Manassas Park in the U.S. state of Virginia...

Why is the Martinsville flyer different? (Eric - 4/28/2008 4:08:08 PM)

Curse you, Exam Week! (DanG - 4/28/2008 4:11:29 PM)
Right in the middle of Virginia Tech's exam week!  Drat!  Curses!  Anger!

While I'm glad to see it, its gotta be kinda disturbing to some (Alter of Freedom - 4/28/2008 4:49:53 PM)
If you look at things with just a little bit of objectivity and these days I know its hard to muster it up with all the mixed messages coming out of the national debate, but the "Virginia Independence" thing is quite compelling. One of the reasons Warner should have stayed in the national campaign is his savvy understanding of the electorate at large (ie code for he aint no fool!)and sees the mess (potential) after June 3 and into August in Denver and may be guiding his campaign away from what could be some firwworks at the Convention. Warner certainly does not need to, afterall he is well-liked here by Dems, independents and even some moderate (code for fiscal conservative) Reps alike but he may be foreshadowing a shift away from the traditonal campaign tied to the national Democratic Party we will see in other States. He may be suspicious of a backlash down ticket should things get bad in denver , though I think he is relatively safe here in Virginia but stanger things have happened--Allen managed to blow a big lead afterall.
The "independent" thing is a bit of a stretch for Warner though, he certainly is a moderate Democrat in the New Democrat tradition and I think must be understand that and respect him for it.

Don't forget about Harrisonburg (Cassidy Rasnick - 4/29/2008 10:22:25 AM)
The last stop on Governor Warner's announcement tour will be in Harrisonburg on May 6th at 5pm. We'll be on the Courthouse steps! Lowell, do you mind posting the Harrisonburg flyer as well?
