Hey everyone,
Jessica here for the Perriello for Congress campaign. As you all probably know, Tom Perriello is going to be challenging Virgil Goode in one of the most competitive congressional races this year. And we are going to need your help - both online and off - to flip the fifth district.
As part of our effort to build the largest grassroots network the district has ever seen, we are pioneering a campaign training program for college-aged people we're calling Common Good Summer. Inspired by the model of the historic union summers and civil rights summers, this intensive program will offer young people a unique opportunity to play a major role in this election and to have a once-in-a-lifetime experience that will affect people's lives in the fifth district for years to come.
Fellows will participate in a comprehensive grassroots training at the program's outset and continue to receive advanced trainings over the course of the fellowship to hone campaign skills. Common Good Summer will be the most comprehensive voter mobilization program in the history of our district.
Fellows will be given ambitious goals for registering new voters and raising awareness, particularly among underserved groups such as younger voters, African-Americans, and rural residents, preparing us for a strong GOTV effort in the fall. This will include door-to-door canvassing, a pervasive presence at public gatherings (county fairs, BBQs, bowling alleys), phone banking, and other means of reaching potential voters.
This is a unique opportunity to play a leadership role in a campaign, and to prepare you for a future career in politics or public advocacy.
Applications are due on May 12, and can be completed online on our website:
