Ohio Takes Action on Global Warming. Virginia? Uh....

It looks like Ohio is moving ahead of Virginia when it comes to dealing with global warming:

Ohio gets 87 percent of its electricity from coal (and the rest is mostly nukes), putting it in the upper echelon of coal-using states in the nation (No. 2 behind Texas, to be precise).

And that, friends, is about to change, because yesterday the Ohio Legislature passed a renewable energy standard requiring utilities to provide 12.5 percent of Ohio's electricity from clean, renewable energy sources like wind and solar by 2025. This bill has a solar-specific requirement that will result in about 594 MW of solar in the Buckeye State.

Again, I ask, why can't Virginia do this?  And yes, before you even ask, Ohio IS a coal-producing state (EIA statistics here). So much for that excuse.  Meanwhile, we are forced to see the constant barrage of advertising by Dominion Power, falsely claiming that it gives a rat's you-know-what about the environment, that it is serious about energy efficiency, etc.  Basically, I could do a long deconstruction of these ads, pointing out where they are misleading, exaggerated, or even outright lies.  But instead, for now, I'll just urge you to either ignore the ads or to add the word "not" in key places -- like "Dominion is NOT working to protect the environment."  Just a suggestion.
