Alexander has represented the 89th House District since 2002. His name has surfaced as a possible Democratic contender for lieutenant governor. He hasn't ruled that out, but he sounds like he's leaning against it. He and his wife have two small children, and the opening of the new business has taken a toll."I have a commitment to the community," he said, "and if you run for lieutenant governor, you might as well run for governor. I think my political future is more as a representative - that could be state or federal."
So stay tuned.
If Alexander doesn't run, which is certainly what it sounds like from this article, that could leave one Democrat sitting pretty. And that Democrat would be...Jon Bowerbank.
Meaning no disrespect to Mr. Bowerbank, I sure would like to see a ticket of Deeds and Moran in 2009 (I know it's not really a ticket). The strong Democratic wave in VA is too critical to waste in a primary battle. I hope Moran can be persuaded by appeals to humility and unity, given the successful example of Kaine following Warner, Moran only having to wait four years for his turn, and perhaps with a November '08 landslide for Obama/Clinton.
I'd appreciate if those who have met Mr. Bowerbank or know more of him, would fill the rest of us in a bit more. LG may seem like a nothing-burger of a job, but in fact, it is usually the launching pad for future gubernatorial campaigns, and therefore it's important to have the right person occupying that seat.
So who is Mr. Bowerbank, what are his views, what are his qualifications, and what does he have to offer? Anyone?
My understanding is that there will be some big news about this race and Jon coming in the next few days.
Jon Bowerbank for Lt. Gov.
