In short, his plan would freeze discretionary spending while cutting all income taxes (no surprise that the biggest beneficiaries are the 100K to 500K earners - i.e. rich folks), cutting the alternative minimum tax, increasing exemptions, and lowering the top corporate tax rate from 35% to 25%. That's a big bite out of the Federal budget.
And finally, the part Gilmore would be most proud of, and why he should be the VP, is that McCain wants to ditch the Federal gasoline tax (at least on a temporary basis). At roughly 18 cents per gallon, the federal gasoline tax represents approximately 5 percent of the cost. And with prices in wild flux, that 18 cent discount could easily disappear with a slight spike in oil prices. Would we be better off? Slightly, very slightly.
This whole plan sounds so Gilmoresque. It reminds me of Gilmore's shoot-yourself-in-the-foot car tax removal plan. Since he's got plenty of experience implementing a popular transportation related anti-tax policy that results in total disaster, why not leverage that experience as VP to help drive our country into total economic collapse? Plus, it's not like he's going to be getting (John) Warner's Senate seat - so Gilmore will be needed a job.
I can't think of anyone else who is putting so much effort towards attacking the Democratic party's Presidential nominee. Hillary Clinton has got John McCain's back. She's earned the right to be his running mate.
