Based on the following press release, I think it's safe to say that Mark Warner will be on the ballot this November for U.S. Senate. :)  Great work by Deputy Campaign Manager Joe Abbey, by the way. In fact, the last time I saw Joe, he and his team working hard to collect signatures at the state JJ Dinner back in February. Apparently, their hard work paid off!

FRIENDS OF MARK WARNER SUBMITS ALMOST 30,000
BALLOT PETITION SIGNATURES

~ Volunteer effort reflects enthusiastic support for U.S. Senate candidacy ~

ALEXANDRIA, Va. - Friends of Mark Warner submitted the signatures of 29,146 Virginia voters to Virginia's State Board of Elections in Richmond today to place the name of former Governor and Democratic U.S. Senate candidate Mark R. Warner on the November 4, 2008 election ballot. Signatures were collected across the state by 602 volunteers.

State law requires candidates to submit the signatures of at least 10,000 Virginia voters, including the signatures of at least 400 registered voters in each of Virginia's eleven Congressional Districts.

"Hundreds of people from every corner of the Commonwealth volunteered their time to gather these signatures, and their tremendous effort allowed us to dramatically exceed all of our expectations," former Governor Warner said. "I really appreciate this tangible sign of enthusiasm and broad-based support for our campaign to insist on common-sense results, and not partisanship, from Washington."

P.S. The deadline for submitting candidate declarations/petitions is 5 pm today.

Any word on whether Doug Denneny and Lori Alexander have turned in signatures to get on the ballot for the primary in VA-11?

Primary or G.E? (Cliff Garstang - 4/11/2008 1:12:42 PM)
Weren't these petitions for the June primary ballot, not the November General Election?

I believe they're for both (Lowell - 4/11/2008 3:05:33 PM)
During the Webb campaign, we didn't have to collect petition signatures twice (thank god).

Primary Only (Cliff Garstang - 4/11/2008 3:18:17 PM)
Not that it matters, but I think this is just for the primary and no petitions will be needed for the general election because MW will be the party's nominee.

That sounds right. (Lowell - 4/11/2008 5:32:15 PM)
Thanks.

Indeed, under the Election Law, a party nominee does not need the petition signatures; it's getting on the primary ballot that requires signatures and I believe that's what Gov. Warner's petitions were for, despite what his own website says.

Or am I missing something?
