Local Businesses Benefit from Clean Energy's Rising Tide

Lots of tidal power news these days, unfortunately not from the U.S.:

Bristol, England-based Marine Current Turbines has put its first commercial scale tidal turbine in the water, lowering a 1.2 megawatt SeaGen system into the fast flowing waters of Strangford Narrows in Northern Ireland.

And off Canada ...

The planned Bay of Fundy tidal power test site in Nova Scotia will use turbines from Annapolis, Md.'s UEK, Ireland's OpenHydro Group, and Vancouver, British Columbia-based Clean Current.

UEK isn't the only company in our region that stands to benefit from investment in tidal power. Arlington's Verdant Power installed the Roosevelt Island Tidal Energy Project in New York City's East River.

So where is Virginia investing? A $1.9 billion (and growing) coal plant that will cause our power bills to go up (by how much, no one can say). Please sign CCAN's Mile Long Petition to urge Dominion to invest instead in clean energy.
