Back in July 2007, Jim Webb debated Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC) on Meet the Press. If you didn't watch it, you missed one of the best smackdowns you'll ever see on the Sunday morning talk shows. At times, I thought Jim Webb was going to simply reach over and extract Lindsey Graham's lungs from his chest. For instance, I loved it when Graham tried to claim that U.S. troops fought in Iraq because they supported the president's policy; Webb lectured him that troops fought not because of politics but "because they love their country." Fun stuff.
Anyway, this Sunday morning, there will be a Webb vs. Graham rematch, this time on This Week with George Stephanopoulos. Webb and Graham will be discussing the situation on the ground in Iraq, and previewing Tuesday's Senate hearing with General Petraeus and Ambassador Crocker. Perhaps Sen. Graham will be on his med's this time, we'll see...
That is just a great piece of video. I remember watching it when it first aired and I can say it is a piece of video that just gets better with age. great job Senator Webb!
Born Fighting... (ub40fan - 4/3/2008 11:52:50 AM)

And a shout out to Will Edwards working for Virginians and Vets as part of the Webb's Born Fighting crew ....
Sunday morning will be fun.
Webb (Vrn84 - 4/3/2008 12:26:19 PM)
Webb apparently intimidates Graham... he seems like someone who is big talk then when confronted quickly backs down. Webb is the man! Webb 2012!! haha
Graham always looks nervous around Webb (Catzmaw - 4/3/2008 2:45:30 PM)
In this last debate Webb swept aside Graham's usual debate trick of just talking over an opponent and controlled the encounter very well. He's such a forceful personality and his bona fides when it comes to military knowledge are so superior that Graham knows he's outclassed.
Hoping Webb had an opportunity to catch the testimony (Catzmaw - 4/3/2008 2:52:04 PM)
Before the Senate Foreign Relations committee yesterday from three witnesses, one of whom is Nir Rosen, a journalist who's spent five years mostly in Iraq, speaks Arabic fluently, and has numerous contacts among all the warring parties there. He wrote an article in Rolling Stone a couple of months ago that completely gutted the whole "surge is working" argument and pointed out that we're just supporting a bunch of militias. He has also pointed out the Maliki government's close ties to Iran, ties closer than anything like the relationship the Iranians have with the very prickly and nationalistic Al Sadr. C-Span replayed a lot of the testimony this morning. Great stuff.
I'm sorry, but Webb came across as something of a jackass (laxmatt - 4/3/2008 11:32:26 PM)
I'm not saying this as some rabid Republican - I'm non Ideological.
Senator Webb's performance on Meet the Press embarrassed me as a Virginian. A Senator must be composed and dignified. Interrupting, belittling, and mocking other Senators does not impress me - I don't care what the party is or what the issue is.
I hope the Webb's amateurish performance on MTP was just that - the work of an amateur. Hopefully now that he has some Senate experience under his belt, he can give Virginia the classy representation it deserves.
Personally, I thought Webb was great here (aznew - 4/4/2008 2:00:13 PM)
We could use a little less decorum in the Senate, and a little more honesty like this, as far as I'm concerned.
I'm all for dignity, but the fact is that dignity should not serve as a cloak for Senators to lie, and like it or not, that is what Graham was doing here in attempting to create the impression that the military was in favor of the policy of President Bush.
Webb made me proud to be a Virginian when I saw this.
Me too. (Lowell - 4/4/2008 2:22:46 PM)
I hope Webb kicks Graham's sorry butt on Sunday as well. We'll see if ol' Lindsey lets Webb get a word in edgewise, or if he's off his med's again.
Hey Laxmatt You Try Working Around A Bunch Of Liars (Lee Diamond - 4/4/2008 1:37:53 AM)
It is worse than a bunch of LIARS. Because, what do all the lies mean? When it comes to use of the military, Laxmatt, what do the LIES mean?
Lies = Death.
Can you handle that Laxmatt?
We're fighting the wrong war while Afghanistan deteriorates.
Webb has a right to be angry about all the deception that is keeping Bush's pointless military campaign on life support.
How old are you? (laxmatt - 4/4/2008 1:46:41 PM)
You Said "Webb Embarassed Me" (Lee Diamond - 4/4/2008 3:41:15 PM)
I take offense at that remark about our Senator. Lies = Death. If you don't understand that after 5+ years of NEEDLESS and COUNTLESS deaths and cannot get your head around the concept of putting Webb's appearance in perspective then maybe you have a problem.
what mother... (lgb30856 - 4/4/2008 4:45:29 PM)
