RK Withdraws its Endorsement of Barack Obama

After a great deal (at least a minute or two) of thought, Raising Kaine has decided to withdraw its endorsement of Barack Obama for president.  We're really sorry for all the confusion, but heck, we all make mistakes in life -- and that was a big one!  I mean, what WERE we thinking?  Obviously, at this point in our history, we need someone who can divide the country further, not bring it together.  That's perfectly clear NOW, but obviously wasn't when we foolishly endorsed Obama like a bunch of mindless robots (hence the term, "Obamabots") several months ago.  In general, we need more polarization, not some b.s. about "bringing the country together."  Yeah, right, and monkeys...

So, where did we go wrong in our Obama endorsement?  Probably the biggest mistake we made was in listening to the vast majority of RK readers (80%-90%) and "front pagers" (100%) who wanted us to endorse Obama.  I mean, what, if 80%-90% of RK readers and 100% of "front pagers" had wanted us to jump off a cliff, would we have done it?  Of course we would have...I mean, wouldn't have. Or something. So obviously that was our first big mistake.

Then, to compound our error, we paid far too much attention to the fact that we really LIKED Barack Obama. As if THAT's supposed to make a difference in who you support. How shallow we were, but now we know better in our cynical old age. In the future, we will always endorse the candidate we don't like over the candidate we do like. Simple logic. Yeah, that's the ticket!

Another big mistake: we were swayed by the fact that Barack Obama kept winning caucuses and primaries.  I mean, what does THAT have to do with anything?  Just sayin'.

Worst of all, we thought about this endorsement way too much.  Personally, I started 2007 hoping for Al Gore or Wes Clark.  For a long time, I was leaning strongly towards Hillary Clinton.  Then, I had my John Edwards moment, almost endorsed him as a matter of fact. Finally, in utter exhaustion after watching all 5,000 debates and reading 10 gazillion articles on this @#$%@#$% presidential contest, I did a random number generator and it came up Obama.  And before you criticize random number generators, I would just like to point out that I had a co-worker once who won the office NCAA tournament pool by using one of those damn things.  Ergo, random number generators rock!

But now, it's April 1, 2008, and we at RK have had serious second thoughts. It must be something about this day, April 1, but what could it be?  Boy, do I feel like a FOOL, I can't remember what April 1 is supposed to signify.  Anyway, whatever it is, it's inspired us to withdraw our endorsement of Barack Obama, to put banana peels on the floor and whoopie cushions on peoples' chairs.  Maybe we'll think better of it tomorrow.  Meanwhile, HAPPY APRIL FOOLS DAY!

beat me to the punch (pvogel - 4/1/2008 10:32:23 AM)
I had a post  for this morning about my  becoming a republican.    But I realized that april 1st of a leap year wasnt the right time for it.
It has to be april first of a leap year with Cicadas, and two full moons in february, with P8ublic nudity becoming the accepted  clothing at summertime outdoor festivals.

You had me there for a moment... (lgb30856 - 4/1/2008 10:48:44 AM)
have posted this over at blogforamerica.

Good one!!

This Is Very Good News For Obama! (BP - 4/1/2008 11:32:45 AM)
As I recall, RK's front page endorsement of Obama cost him thirteen points in the New Hampshire primary as a direct result of what has become known as the "Reverse RK Effect."  See:  http://www.raisingkaine.com/sh...

Therefore, thinking logically, RK's withdrawal of its endorsement can only result in a thirteen point swing in Obama's favor in Pennsylvania.  More than enough to put him in the lead.  :)

Excellent point. (Lowell - 4/1/2008 11:34:54 AM)
Also, based on that excellent reasoning, I believe we should also withdraw our support of Leslie Byrne, Judy Feder, Tom Perriello, and Glenn Nye among others.  Thoughts? :)

No Need To Withdraw Your Support For Virginia Candidates (BP - 4/1/2008 11:47:50 AM)
Political scientists have been able to conclusively establish the Reverse RK Effect only with respect to elections held outside of Virginia.

Ahhh, I see. (Lowell - 4/1/2008 12:06:46 PM)
And who would these fine political scientists be, pray tell?  Larry Sabato? Not Larry Sabato? :)

Gotta support HRC--she took sniper fire at Gettysburg today! (Shenandoah Democrat - 4/1/2008 11:44:24 AM)

"Blogosphere Turns Back on Obama!" (Teddy - 4/1/2008 1:18:27 PM)
Look hard enough, that headline must in the Washington Post somewhere!
And in the Washington Times: "Lowell Feld Sees The Light!" and subhead : Feld Makes Confession to Reverend Moon"

Ha, very good. (Lowell - 4/1/2008 1:22:54 PM)
How did you know that Rev. Moon has been a long-time idol of mine? :)
